What's the layout, especially re clearing security, at LAX?

A search yielded nothing so I'm posting here.

I've examined several maps of LAX online but none have indicated whether there are separate screening areas for each terminal. I'm catching a redeye out of Terminal 2 but the only accessible club open before my flight is in Terminal 6. Once I'm in, can I move freely between terminals? Or am I stuck in wherever I end up?

Thanks.

I am afraid you are out of luck. I live in LA, and I have been to LAX many times.I know that each terminal has its own screening area, so once you are inside, you are stuck inside that Terminal. The exception to this rule is you may travel between terminal 6 and 7 without reclearing security, but as your flight is in terminal 2, there is no way to go from terminal 2 to terminal 6 without going through securtiy. I hope this helps.

Each LAX terminal is separate, with separate screening checkpoints, and the walkways connecting some of the terminals were closed a few years ago after well-publicized security breaches (which necessitated clearing more than one terminal). No walkways ever connected T-2 (or T-1 or T-3) with any other terminals, anyway.

If your flight is out of T-2, then you won't get into T-6 unless you buy a refundable ticket for a flight out of T-6 or make a "meeting" reservation for your club (often 24 hour advance notice) and get on the "list." The good news is that T-6 is just about across from T-2, so getting between them should be a 10 minute walk at most.

6, 7 and 8 have common security. Most of the others don't. Unless you are flying with an airline that has a codeshare-type shuttle between terminals, you are out of luck. You'll need to prearrange for a gate pass. Beware that if you are checking luggage, some terminals (I don't know about 2) have halfassed TSA setups where you check in, and then go elsewhere with your tagged luggage, in a line, where you wait. And wait. Enjoy LAX.

LAX T2 is a grim terminal, except for the recently refurbished NZ lounge. There are lots of evening flights out so expect delays at check in and at security (if you're elite or flying business or first then you can take the shorter line for both).
