Packing advice
 

Help. I have a short business trip - part casual, part not. I don't have a garment bag, and I need my laptop (2d bag). I have a standard Costco carry-on roller, and if I need to check luggage, I only have a huge 30" bag which I use once a year.

Will I be able to get everything in the roller? I need (1) a suit, which I will wear 2x. Don't want to fly with it on. (1) pair slacks. 2 decent shirts. 2d pair of shoes. Jeans/other crap shirt, etc and personal items. Total 3 nights away.

Do you have those items or clothing you have mentioned above or do you need to purchase them?

If you do have the above, then the best thing to do is to do a trial packing - put those items and clothes in the roller and there, you will have your answer - if they fit or not.

I own everything. Trying to avoid making a wrinkled mess out of it if not necessary.

I'd do a trial pack as well. I travel with what you have suggested below 1X per week. If you fold your suit coat, neatly, and remove it and the slacks upon arrival and hang them, I have never had an issue.

Be careful, to have a well packed bag, if you have things packed and they can flop around inside, it can cause problems.

But I'm really confused: Eastbay1K, you have over 8K in posts, so your question seems odd, what kind of travel do you normally do?

Sure. I do this all the time --

Suit, dress shoes, shirt, tie, couple of extra shirts, extra pants -- that's easy, with room to spare. What was harder, but still doable, was three weeks in Europe out of a rollaboard.

Should be easy. Either (1) trial pack and/or (2) bring along clothing that you want to get rid off after you've worn them once or twice on the trip. If part of your trip is casual, and you don't care what people see you're wearing, bring the clothing/shoes that you've targetted for the garbage bin or charity. Once you've worn them, chuck them.

I know it sounds odd. Most of my travel is leisure, and the last time I had to travel for multi-days with business attire, a second carry-on (small garment bag) was allowed. My lifetime flying is probably well over 1.5 million flight miles on a few airlines, but no, never tried to shove all that in a single bag.

I usually fit things in a roller. Just make sure you can safely fold the jacket.
(keep it in a plastic bag with the hanger, and put other clothes between
the folds. make sure the roller is packed and things dont shift that easily.)
If it looks risky, then just carry the jacket with you on the flight.

I've managed to pack things in a single roller for one week business trips
very easily.
