overhead bin space

what would the problem be for the airlines to assign overhead bins to each seat
this would guarantee you space above your seat
if there are more seats than bins some seat would just be less desirable like seats with no recline or near lav's
so your stuff would need to be checked or put under seat

Stand by...

for heavy rolls from the "my time is much too important to wait 19 minutes for a checked bag" crowd. :p

Another contention, with which I agree, is that if the airlines would only enforce existing carry on regulations there would be plenty of space for all.

A typical economy seat pitch is 31.5". There are usually three seats on either side of a single-aisle aircraft. That's 10.5" per seat, essentially useless.

The only reason overhead racks work at all is that some people don't have roll-aboards, some only have stuff that squishes into spaces between other bags, some people have long-but-skinny things that fit in front of other folks' long-and-skinny things, and so on. With this rule nobody would be able to use the racks for anything besides an old jacket you don't mind rolling up and a bottle of duty-free liquor.

I totally agree. It's always the law-abiding citizens that get punished.

a simple fix
if there are more seats than bins some seat would just be less desirable
like seats with no recline or near lav's and have little or no bin space

so your stuff would be put under seat or would need to be checked
like long-but-skinny things and such
if you need bin space don't buy that seat where it could state this
this would keep the people in back put there bag in a bin by the loading door

I think that bulkhead seats should have dedicated space until it's deemed to be no longer needed. I usually don't have more than my computer bag. If I'm in a bulkhead seat, I should be guaranteed a space to put my ONE bag. Other than that, I don't have a problem with the system.

Amen to that!

Who ever invented the bag that takes up the whole compartment in one fell swoop should be horse whipped.

.....and it's always the "I won't wait for checked bags" crowd that wheels two of these damn things on with them

I cherish boarding Platinum on AA just to get my bag in the overhead first :D

Song does that. The FAs keep space available for row 9 passengers since they are last to board and bulkhead.

I agree with the OP, put dividers in the bin (if it is for 2 people put one divider, two for 3 people and so on), this is your cubby, do with it as you wish. If it doesnt fit in your cubby or under the seat in front of you (which does NOT include sticking out the front of the seat in front of you btw) then it gets checked.

The airlines also have to stop taking more and more bin space and marking it "for airline equipment use only", started with one bin up front and has creeped, saw 6 bins marked this last week. This already put 12 people out of bin space!

People are using this new study of 10,000 lost a day as justification to stop checking, that is less than 1% lost!!!!!!!!!! Deal with it if you are the 1% but stop punishing everyone to avoid something the chance of happening is less than winning the lottery.

AS may allow bulkhead passengers to board early.

I think I've observed Alaska Airlines GAs calling bulkhead rows to board with First Class and premier members
