BLOCKED Delta seats

Guys, I'm looking at booking a couple of seats on the new EDI-ATL Delta 97 service. Looking in September (I am pretty flexible on dates) I have found that ALL the premium (Emergency exit & Bulk head) seats are BLOCKED and after a few frustrating calls to Delta, they just say, they are blocked until day of departure at the aiport. My wife and I are both Platinum with Delta and they will not allow us to confirm any of these seats. Where as if I book with Continental, with whom I have no FF status (except via SkyTeam), they can confirm an emergency exit row seat.

Anyone explain this ?

Steve.

This has been the case with DL for a very long time. FWIW on CO there are very few 'traditional' exit rows on their intl planes, except the 757.

I have to disagree here. I am also PM on DL, and I am able to book exit-row seats on my 2-week-advance-purchase tix. I would call SMS again and ask them to change you into exit row seats. If the agent says no, repeat until you get an agent who will accommodate.

I book 20 international trips per year with Delta and have NEVER had this problem.

I've never been able to book bulkhead, but exit rows are available as long as I attest to my willingness and ability to help evacuate in an emergency.

Agreed, that is the normal policy, but Delta have almost the first 5 rows (except the row in front of the first emergency exit row) blocked in Coach, for EVERY flight throught September and October (Yes - I checked = sad).

And, they will not release them to me and my wife, both of whom are platinum and both of whom have sat in 100+ Delta exit rows !

= VERY WEIRD .........

PS : It does not change even if I ask for a FULL COACH Y fare at $3,750 ! I still have to pick from the NON exit row NON bulk head seats. Also, interesting to note that on this flight (767), they show the row in front of the exit row as being a premium seat, and it does NOT recline ! = WOW !

I believe the issue is that they have two different configurations of the 767ER -- the "normal" ones and some ex-Gulf Air ones. The seatmap differs, so some of the seats on the map are blocked until they're sure they exist. This will depend on the equipment used that day.

and after agreeing you say under your breath as long as they hold onto the back of your shirt as you are jumping out the door (will help on the out side)
told that to a FA in the middle of a flight and she smiled and said that i would be following her out the door second :D

INDIAN agents are seemed doesn't have much access on that.

try to contect to Refund or Reissue DEPT. they got power !!

JerryFF Feb 15, 2006 11:54 pm

Most travel agents can get exit row seats unblocked, though not bulkhead.

zsmith2 Feb 16, 2006 12:07 am

If it won't let you do it online try calling another agent. Obviuously the agent you first talked to didn't know what they were talking about. DEMAND those seats!

I'm not going to challenge your thorough research. :D I have noticed from time to time, that blocks of seats on some flights appear held, usually in the front of the cabin and just wondered why.

I also wonder about the variable number of rows designated for elite customers. It can be 2 rows on the outbound and 6 rows (same a/c) on the return. DL, in particular, seems to have hired a bunch of folks that flunked Statistics in College. (So did I - it's possible I'm the one who doesn't understand).

FWIW, I had to go to SAV airport to book a flight SAV-ATL-SFO because of using an AMEX companion deal. (Yeah, I saved a couple hundred bucks.) I told the agent that I'd appreciate bulkhead or exit row seats on the ATL-SFO (long haul) flights since I'm well over six feet tall. She booked us in exit rows on ALL flights. I may do this for all future trips.
