First Class or Coach
 

Hello guys new to the board. I've around 100,000 miles saved up(Delta). Just wondering what are the major differences between First Class and Coach. I'm going to Vegas towards the end of the year. Flown coach all my life would like to know if the extra 20000 miles i would have to used will be justified. Thankyou

Domestically I would say it is a very bad use of miles - the differences are a bigger seat, a drink and maybe a snack (assuming you are flying from within the U.S.).

Save your points to fly internationally. Personally if you are coming from within the U.S., don't even use your points for this trip unless the fares are very high. That 100K can get you a seat in a premium cabin over either the Atlantic or Pacific, a much, much better value IMO.

I'll disagree with MapleLeaf. After all, it depends a lot on where you are flying from. If you're coming from Boston, the flight to Vegas may be almost as long as the flight to Europe. But a flight from L.A. to LAS is a poor use of miles in either class.

ML is correct that overseas premium travel does offer the best "value" for your miles, that is, savings over what the ticket would have cost in cash. But where do you plan to go? If you don't plan to travel internationally in the next couple of years, then don't hesitate to use miles domestically. Just make sure you price out a cash ticket first to make sure there's not a super-cheap alternative.

If it's less than a few hours worth of flight time, I'd just go coach. Transcontinental 1st maybe. As others said definately check out cash prices first though so you're not wasting miles.
