complex HKG routing question
 

traveling around southern China I would like to fly from WUH, CTU, CAN, or CKG or that area to LAX. I would like to find a flight that has a stopover in HKG before LAX. Is there anyway other spending a long time with a travel agent to find out if this kind of routing exists?

basically I would like to stopover in HKG before returning to the states and I know once you leave mainland your one entry visa is up.

I know I'm reaching for the stars, but hey somebody might be really knowledgeable.

China Southern flies CAN-HKG; I don't see why you can't buy 2 tix, one on China Southern and the other on whatever airline you want to fly from.

I'm certainly no China expert but I'm sure that you can get from anywhere in China (basically) to CAN and from CAN to HKG. I also figure that there would be non-stops from WUH and CKG since they're major cities....

I think a long meeting with a TA may be in order to get what you want....

Another option might be to do all your mainland flying in China, making your way to Guanzhou (southern China) and simply take the train over to HK and fly back to the states from there

the other alternative is to consider picking up a tour.

I am currently staying in China and the idea of a TA is not possible where I am. Truly where I am at there are no TA's or anyone that speaks English. I have to go 3 hours by bus one way to "the city" and have had disasterous results. One time I was left off who knows where.

Anyway I will be heading back to the US and would love to stop over in HK if possible on flight going to the US.

My sister that lives in the NW of the US says flights from her area to China actually go through HK. I think it the flights were through Portland or Spokane.

I'll be heading into LAX. I need the warmth!

If where you are have no travel agent, then you should just head to the closest airport and buy a ticket to Hong Kong. Or more cheaply to Shenzhen (SZX). Then cross into Hong Kong by coach or ferry.

Once in Hong Kong, find a travel agent to get your ticket back to the US.

I think that'd be the easiest way for you.

I did Dragon Air from WUH to HKG last year. Booked it on Expedia with no problems.

I have seen us-china fares that permitted travel on CX, CA, and JL (thereby allowing stops in HK and Japan), but these aren't all that cheap and I'm not sure whether similar fares exist ex-China.

You might want to call ctrip 021 34064888 to see what they can swing, but I'm not optimistic at all. Like others have suggested, if you really want to stop in HK, you should just go there and buy a separate ticket to LAX.
