What to get when visiting?
What is good shopping in Prague, exactly?
I think I have heard you can get deals on crystal, but is there anything else that Prague is known for that you are better off getting there? Besides beer, I mean! ;) |
Absinthe, of sorts.
Bohemian crystal. Art Nouveau posters/prints (Alphonse Mucha was Czech). Garnet jewelry. Communist paraphernalia/propaganda items (see Museum of Communism, just off Wenceslas Square, above a McDonald's for a truly ironic touch). Beer, but somehow that never makes it home. See Europe Forum. There's been a lot posted about Prague. |
I checked but not much really. You post really said it all I think!
I was wondering though if there was really anything that my wife would LOVE to have from Prague, esp. for the holiday. |

beware when buying Absinthe. The quality of the Czech product really isn't that great, and you can't bring it into the US. We recently had some confiscated by customs.

I love buying old Communist regalia when I am in Eastern Europe, especially the old Lennin Pins; they can often be bought for just a few Euro and make a wonderful and unique souviner.

I toyed with the absinthe idea but let it go and gladly so, as your example noted! sorry to hear it.
Well, just got back and slept off 12 hours of jet lag last night.... WOW bought crystal (so cheap!)....I mean, my wife said that one decanter on our bridal registry was $200...in Prague, we got a whole decanter set, 2 vases, a candy dish all for hte same amount.. too bad, she wasnt into garnets. LOL thanks again! |
