not enough time between flights?
 

I have a flight that leaves Cork Ireland at 9:00am and gets to london gatwick at 10:45am, but I then Have a Flight to Orlando at noon that same day, now both flights leave from the same terminal and I don't think I have to bother with imigration unil I get to orlando but I'm worried that an hour and 15 minutes is not enough time between the flights I not sure if I have to check my baggage again once I get to gatwick. What do you think?

Almost certainly, you do not have enough time.

From Cork to Gatwick, you are probably flying either easyJet or Ryanair. Neither airline will transfer your baggage automatically at Gatwick so you will have to collect your baggage and check in again. Even assuming that your flight arrives on time and that it only takes you half an hour to collect your baggage, exit into the arrivals area and then walk over to the check-in area (which also requires everything to go right), you will almost certainly still be too late to check in for your Orlando flight - whichever airline you're on and to whichever Orlando airport you're flying.

You really want to leave about 4 hours between flights if you're going to do this.

I've got to agree with Globaliser - that is not enough time.

It'd appear that only easyJet flies between ORK and LGW.

I think your options are:
(i) reschedule your trans-atlantic flight
(ii) fly to London the previous evening, stay overnight
(iii) in order to fly from Ireland (this would be from DUB) to LGW the same day, I think it's only BA (and Ryanair) that could get you there around 9.30 or so. Even this would be pushing it.

International check-ins usually close about an hour before departure. You simply don't have enough time, so as globaliser suggested 4 hours for comfort is a good idea.

However, as you're not through ticketed if anything goes wrong with your first flight the airlines are just going to wash their hands of any missed connections, it may seem a little extreme but have you considered taking a flight the previous evening and using a hotel for the night. If you're a worrier like myself, you might prefer the peace of mind. You ought to be able to priceline a gatwick hotel cheaply.

How about if I limit myself to only a carry on bag. I'm only visting cork for two weeks. I guess I'll have to wash my clothes a few dozen times, but would I still be able to catch my flight?

No. Even if your flight arrived at the gate bang on schedule it can take 5-10 minutes to disembark a 737, then you have to rush through immigration, and customs, dash to find your check in desk 1hr before departure at the busiest time of day. It ain't gonna happen.

What airlines are you actually flying? And are the flight times that you have quoted exact, or approximate?

I can't find a flight that leaves ORK at 0900 and arrives at LGW at 1045; the closest is the EZY which departs ORK at 0920 on current schedules, but which does arrive at 1045.

And I cannot find an LGW-MCO flight that leaves at 1200. There's a VS at 1115 and another at 1230. There's a BA at 1140, but that's in the other terminal from both EZY and RYR and you did say that you're changing in the same terminal.

The reason for being pedantic is that if you are on VS and your flight is 1230 not 1200, and you have cabin baggage only, then I think you have a fighting chance. The reason is that you can check-in online with VS. Then you just have to make sure that you have reached either the VS transfer desk, a landside check-in desk or a kiosk by -60 minutes (1130) to pick up a BP. And you have a fighting chance of being able to do that if you don't have wait for your baggage.

But it still depends on everything going right. If the slightest thing goes wrong, you've had it. How much risk are you prepared to take?

I think the easiest thing to do is to change your booking (at a cost of 15GBP + fare difference, AFAIK) and fly to LGW the previous evening.

I belive I am flying Virgin atlantic to orlando but I am not sure, I was not the one who made the reservation. Which is probably why it so screwed up. The only thing my Itinerary says about my flight is that it's flight #CO5 leaveing gatwick at 12:00pm. But both the easyjet flight out of cork and the orlando flights leave from the same terminal which is terminal S. This is my return flight back to Orlando I fly into Houston airport before I go to Orlando. I have never flown out of Gatwick before so do I have to go through coustums? I might just reshedual the flight out of cork to the next day depending on the cost. Did you say it was 15GBP? I should also say that I'm not much of a risk taker when it comes to international flights, having missed a flight once before and being stranded in dublin international for 2 days.

Well, you need to remember that for all practical purposes you're flying from Gatwick to Houston, not Orlando. That's what all the screens and information will say at Gatwick. Also, you will clear US immigration and customs at Houston, not Orlando. The Houston->Orlando flight will be a purely domestic flight.

You can't check-in online with CO at Gatwick so this itinerary will not work even with cabin baggage only, and even though you don't technically need to clear either UK immigration or UK customs at Gatwick if arriving from Cork. You just don't have enough time: 15 minutes from arrival time of your Cork flight to last check-in time for your Houston flight is just not enough. You will need to change your Cork-Gatwick flight to one the day before, and find a hotel for the night.

CO0005 is a NON-STOP flight from the south terminal to HOUSTON that departs at 12:00. THIS IS NOT VIRGIN ATLANTIC

In order to get to Orlando you then have to get another flight from Houston

The Easyjet flight arrives at 10:50 then, knowing Easyjet, you'll then spend a long time gettting from the aircraft to the arrival area by which time checkin will be closed for your CO flight.

Rebook (or even book a totally new flight if it's cheaper) for the previous day & look at it as a day trip to London. As you don't have to be at Gatwick until 10:00 you could easily spend the night in London.

BTW there are several airlines - including charter flights - that do direct flights to Orlando from Gatwick, why didn't you pick one of them?
