B1900 - overhead storage?
 

Going to have to take a musical instrument on a
Beech 1900 in a couple weeks. Does this aircraft
normally come equipped with storage bins? Any insight
or any other kind of sight would be appreciated.

You can do a search of "cabin views" photos on airliners.net. The answer is NO.

HA... yeah there isn't even a door to the flight deck on the B1900. It is an awesome flying experience, I was one of 2 pax on one once from HPN to BOS on CO's Commutair, the night approach out the flight deck window into Boston was memorable. But yeah, no overhead storage, and the underseat storage is more limited than on a jetliner or even an RJ. Be prepared to gate check your bag.

Unless you are planning to strap these instruments in the seat next to you which will be across the aisle since the plane only has one seat per side, there is no place for you to place these next to you. Some B-1900's have a closet up front that you may be able to put them if the pilots haven't filled it with their stuff.

Thanks ... I haven't been on a B1900 since that fateful day when I first
signed up for Dividend Miles, in Plattsburgh some years ago. I'd try to
avoid something that small, for that reason, but when you gotta go to
Allentown, you gotta go. Luckily, I'll have a violin with me that was
built in the mid 1990s and is fairly robust. But I'll give a go to asking
the FA (if there is one!) diplomatically (not being my natural condition)
if I can use the forward closet (if there is one!).

There isn't. The first officer is usually the one who does the safety briefing and is available during boarding to help stow any items you bring on board.

If the weather's nice, the Beech 1900 isn't too bad of an experience, other than the noise, vibrations in the floor, and dim lighting. In windy conditions it can be rather unpleasant, if not downright awful. I've had more experiences flying these little f***ers out of DEN to small towns in Wyoming than I wish, including one where more than half the passengers on board needed to use the air sickness bags. Oh, and be sure you visit the facilities in the airport before boarding. There's no lav on the Beech.
