Dublin Layover
Have a questoion and not sure if this is correct place to post, but I'm sure I'll find out shortly... :)
Making a Overnight MR ORD - DUB in January with a 4 hour ( 0840 -1230) layover in Dublin.. anyone have a suggestion on what to de / see in that short period.. I don't think I want to SIT in the lounge and wait ... thanks |
To be honest, I'm not sure it's worth leaving DUB and then re-clearing security for that short period of time. To go into Dublin, you'll have to take a bus and with the traffic at that time, it can take up to an hour. So by the time you get in to town, and the time you need to start getting back in order to clear security etc - it doesn't leave much time.

I agree, you donīt really have time to do much outside the airport.
That said, DUB has a great duty free. You can even do a whiskey tasting (yes, even at that hour.) There are many FTers who like various European toiletries, and if you are one of those they are available in DUB. The boarding process in DUB is cumbersome as you cross US immigration over there, so be aware of this if you do decide to leave the airport. |
Go over to the Great Southern Hotel at the Airport and have a good Irish Breakfast. You can walk over there in 10 minutes from the Terminal. Then after breakfast come back and check-in for your flight. You should be able to accomplish all this easily in 4 hours.

If you feel you need to stretch your legs, catch a cab to one of the local villages. I'd recommend Malahide or Swords. Malahide is on the ocean ad has a nice promenade and old buildings. Swords is less attractive, but is closer.
At that time of the morning, both places will be quiet. Cab fare is not that expensive. |
