Vanishing Hotels?

From time to time I pick up on suggestions of good hotels in cities far and wide only to find they have they have now disappeared without trace - no mention of them anywhere.

Obviously in places like Hong Kong & Vegas - they just get knocked down and its quite widely publicised (Hilton, Furama etc), others it is less obvious what happened (bankruptcy, apartments, name change)?

Here are a few that seem to have disappeared, anyone know what happened to them?

The Imperial Hotel, Bangkok - friends of mine loved this place
Mayfair Regent, New York (Used to get Rave reviews)
Dorset Hotel, New York
Victoria Hotel, Hong Kong

Any others?

Mayflower in New York (on Central Park) - closed last September, has since been demolished to make way for luxury apartments. It was a bit old and faded, but I rather liked it!

The Grand Hyatt in Seoul will be demolished in a few years time due to it's sensitive location in a historical setting.

I believe the Victoria Hotel in Hong Kong is the one on top of the Eastern tower at the Macau Ferry. That building is now called the China Merchants Building, and I believe all office space. Better return for the owner.
