w car rental in phoenix

My daughter is flying into Phoenix and driving to Colorado. She is under 25. She has obtained a reasonable car rental rate from W car rental. She has to take a cab from the airport to the car rental place (12 miles).
Does anyone have any input for me?
Thanks

Renting off-airport saves you the 50%+ taxes and fees imposed by PHX (including $4.50/day for building one of the stadiums); so this is a good strategy esp. for more expensive rentals. I've never heard of W rent-a-car but I'm sure it is legit (the industry is fairly strongly regulated), just be sure she has proof of insurance with her if she is declining to buy their insurance and relying on her/your auto policy (some small rental agencies require producing the original policy, or you have to pay their rather high insurance fees -- maybe their major source of profit).

I have a economy car reserved thru Fox at PHX for Sept 17-19 at a rate of $13.50 pd plus taxes/fees. 3 days=67USD all in. Of course I am >25 y.o.

Not familiar with W. But 12 miles sounds like a Scottsdale address, which should eliminate the PHX Airport/Stadium/Facilities Recap fees.

Word of advice. Make sure they know beforehand that she is taking the car out of state. AZ car rental companies are notorious for dinging you extra if you take the car out of state or the local areas.

That is one long drive also - at least a day in each direction. Have you checked to see if any "short distance" awards at 15K each are available on the airlines you fly.

Yes, they do know it's a long drive. They have friends in Phoenix that they are visiting first then a wedding in Durango. She will be traveling with her boyfriend. They are 23/24 and originally they were in fact booked with another company that changed their rules just last week to restrict out of state travel. This company does allow it.
I checked on ual for phx to dro and there is a flight going out using awards but nothing coming back. I have delta miles and us miles as well but neither of those fly into Durango.
