Carry-On Luggage Recommendations

Carry-On Luggage Recommendations

I try to never check bags (too many bad experiences, extra delays on International flights, etc.). My ~3-year old TravelPro carry-on broke as I arrived in SAN, starting a SAN-LAX-LHR-CDG trip for week in Paris for work. The pull-up handle came out of the bag. I suppose my fondness for resting my rather heavy Brenthaven backpack (with PowerBook, power adapter, books, magazines, camera, assorted electronics and whatnot) on the handle as I drag it from terminal to terminal was a contributing factor.

I have no idea what to get as a replacement. In searching on ebags.com, I see so many carry-ons, all with different features. The Samsung Spinner has wheels that rotate, so you can roll it sideways in a narrow aisle, and I think has a curved top to better fit in the bins. Do you get more space with the curved top or less? One of the TravelPros has an ergonomically-designed handle for comfort. Each of another ten or twenty has something else.

Any advice? Since I only use one carry-on (plus the backpack), I need to cram as much as possible in there, while still fitting in the bins of AA MD-80s, 767s, 777, and the occasional BA or JAL plane.

I did a lot of searching on FT, and did find some threads, but all over a year old, and I think a lot of bags have new features now.

Nothing more to say. A warranty that can't be beat, well built, yeah.... maybe a little pricy but when you realize you'll never have to replace it, it works out (two co workers have replaced their bags twice in the past year... a mix of Samsonite, TravelPro, Tumi, and Vitrinox. I have over 100K miles on my B&R this year *alone* with zero issues, and I'm forever dragging it up and down stairs rather than carrying it up and down).

the 21 NX rollaboard is a great choice.... fits in all domestic overheads and still expands when you need it (although you might have to check it then if on a crowded flight in coach).
