Breakfast @ Brennans (which is a New Orleans tradition)

$71 per person

$36 - Eggs Hussarde (A Brennan's Original) One of the dishes that put "Breakfast at Brennan's" on the map. Poached eggs atop Holland rusks, Canadian bacon and Marchand de Vin sauce. Topped with Hollandaise sauce.
Add $3 - Turtle Soup
Add $3 - Banana's Foster A Brennan Creation and now World-Famous. Bananas sautéed in butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and banana liqueur,
then flamed in rum. Served over vanilla ice cream. Scandalously Delicious!
$14 - Two Creole Bloody Marys
$5 - Tax
$10 - Tip

One of the best breakfasts ever and worth every penny!

Being born and raised in HK, the N'oleans heat and humidity makes me feel just at home. :D

No, none whatsoever. My dinner votes go to Brigtsen's (perhaps the best restaurant in NOLA, imho) and Dick & Jenny's (no reservations, but they have a nice patio on which you can enjoy a drink if you have to wait for a table).

Watch out for some of the hustlers near bourbon street....

one of my favorite scams is

Huster: "I bet you 20 dollars I can guess where you got those shoes"

You: "ok, sure" thinking that the hustler is just drunk and will leave you alone when he gets it wrong"

Hustler: "you got them on your feet in Bourbon street"

Taxis from the airport to Downtown/French Quarter are $28 for 1 or 2 people, or $12 per person for 3 or more. Plus tip.

Take the free ferry across the river to the island community of Algiers.
That's a neat (and free) way to get out on the River. While on the other side, Mardi Gras World is worth a visit. It's where they make/fix/store many of the parade floats. (One note though - Algiers is not an island).

My favorite exchange with one of those folks came when he changed the above question a bit. He said "I bet you $5 I can guess where you got YOUR shoes at?"
When he said on Bourbon street, I simply replied "These aren't my shoes, I borrowed them." :D He didn't pay me the $5, though. :(

You must also get a muffaletta from Central Grocery.

Also, there are a lot of tours out to plantations. My favorite is the Laura Plantation. A lot of people also like Oak Alley Plantation which was shown in the movie Interview with a Vampire.

We also really enjoyed the Haunted History night walking tours. You learn a lot of interesting history about the area.

If you visit theTourist Information Center in Jackson Square, you can pick up a self-guided walking tour of the French Quarter and of the Garden District. Both are very enjoyable and you find a lot of interesting places to pop into and shop or snack.

I figued that they had gone up since I had been there. I forgot about the Marys too. But yes, well worth the money.
And if you go, dress up a bit, not the usual tourist shorts, t shirts and sneakers. They would let you in like that, I think, but it is nice to be dressed for the occassion.

Glad to hear the rec for Dick & Jenny's - this is one of the restaurants we have planned for dinner for our trip there in three weeks. I believe we will all miss the OP, however, as we split on the 31st.

Since I am a local you would NEVER catch me in shorts at Brennan's. There is somewhat a caste system at Brennan's. If you are dressed like a tourist you will be seated with other tourists. Since it seems the OP is going in the hot summer think cool but fabulous dressing. If you are guy and own anything in searsucker now is the time to bring it out from the mothballs. :D
