Compensation for being downgraded

Hi All
Booked flight on Qatar airways recently to Singapore, details as follows.
First class lhr to doha then business from doha to sin.
Return business to doha then first class to lhr.
No 1st class cabin from doha to sin hence change in class.
Now for the fun bit, boarded return flight to doha at sin to find out aircraft cant start 1 of its engines, kept on board for over 1 hour at sweltering temperatures then offloaded to departure gate.No sign of repair to engine so passengers to Lhr are rebooked on Singapore airlines (eventually).Trouble is that we were looking forward to our 1st class sector and said we wished to travel 1st class on Singapore airlines, this was refused and at one point we were told business class was full but we could travel economy !!! Had to wait over an hour for 2 no shows before we were allowed on Singapore airlines plane. To cap it all luggage was booked through to ncl but arrived on carousel at lhr (damaged beyond repair)..just as well we checked the carousel at lhr (had a sneaking suspicion this might happen)..
Anyway what I want to know is how much should we ask for in compensation, flights were £1300 (1st then business class) each but business all the way was £990 approx. As we only got one 1st class leg then I,m thinking we are due at least £150 each but dont know if perhaps we should ask for more and if we are likely to receive our £150 each as a minimum. It was our 1st time on Qatar but thought we treated very poorly so I,m looking for some compensation.Thought about asking for 2 return 1st flights to Qatar instead of £150 each, what do the experts think..???

P.S. I have been saving for this trip for over a year just so I could experience first class at last. There must be some airline procedure for when this happens or is it on an ad hoc basis by the airlines.Hope someone can help me with the answer

In my view you should ask for the difference between full fare c and y for the Sin-Doha leg. I guess this would eb about 6-700$ for each ticket? Keep your letter short and to the point.

Thanks for the reply Erik.Just one question, why do you say difference between c and y when we flew j between sin and lhr.Should we not ask for difference between c and j ? :)

Are you considering compensation for your damaged luggage as well?

I am confused as C and J are both business class? Where you downgrade on any leg?

Sorry Erik I may have got my booking codes wrong but we paid for 1st class lhr to doha and return and business from doha to sin return, downgrade was on the doha to lhr leg as we flew business all the way from sin to lhr on singapore airlines and missed out on the 1st class return leg,not to mention the duty free goods at doha
