Cheapest Way to get from Budapest to Riga

In June, I want to go from Budapest to Riga on approx. June 20, am trying to find the cheapest way to do so without it being an overly cumbersome trip.

Any suggestions? I would like to stop over in either Moscow or St. Petersberg if possible.

Cheers,
Brian

I don't think there are any direct flights BUD-RIX, but possibly one of the cheaper options could be flying with easyJet BUD-SXF-RIX (i.e. via Berlin Schönefeld).

Not sure about the times, possibly night in Berlin required - but from what I could see, this option could still make financial sense (2 flights for ca. 150USD all-in). Do check www.easyjet.com

There's still the option of taking the bus (possibly) - www.eurolines.com
- could be a real hassle though

You mights also want to check the following airlines
www.malev.hu
www.csa.cz
www.airbaltic.com
www.lal.lt
www.estonian-air.ee
www.scandinavian.net

I can't see how a stop-over in Moscow or St.Petersburg could be done if you don't want to spend a lot of money.

hope this helps

Trains in eastern Europe are very cheap, even with a sleeper. Budapest-St. Petersburg (only once or twice a week) or Moscow (at least one train a day) takes 2 nights, and St. Petersburg or Moscow-Riga (daily, one train a day each) is an overnight trip.

Visa

Don't forget; you will need a Visa for Russia and when travelling by train; also Transitvisa for some Country's on your way to Russia.

You can check it here: http://www.delta.com/travel/trav_ser...atic/index.jsp

Have fun

I would consider Easyjet (via STN), Ryanair (via HHF) or AirBaltic (via Stockholm (they have more optins, too).

In Riga I recommend Hotel Centra (www.centra.lv). Definitely the best in town!
