Emptiest LH flight
I was flying STR-BRE yesterday night and we had only 6 passengers aboard a BAe 146.
Has anbody been on a flight with less passengers? |
that's interesting.
For everyone outside Germany, it was a holliday (HAPPY CADAVER DAY) in STR but a normal working day in BRE (catholic Southwest vs. protestants in North and East of Germany). DBA actually cancelled most flights that usually don't go on a sunday. LH obviously didnt - or did they cancel any business routes between cities which were both having a free day? STR-BRE is the Daimler Christler shuttle.. and obviously nobody working in BRE had to go to head office in STR that day. |
Coming back to North America just before Christmas, DTW specifically, I had F to myself!
Short of the F cabin being stacked with beautiful women, this empty flight was the best. Oddly the FA was a former soldier from the US army, but that is a story for a later time. |
BOS-FRA, I was the only passenger in F (16 FC upper deck 747)
BOS-FRA in Y, 1999-ish, 747, ~ 20 passengers in economy. |
My wife and I flew RTW in First Class in 1997 mostly on Singapore.
Twice we were the only ones in First on Singapore and once in Business Class on Canadian Pacific. Received outstanding service :) |
if it counts, AIRail QKL-FRA about two years ago, whole car to myself. The funny thing was, I was told that I bought the last available seat so I couldn't choose at check-in. :p
|
Flew FRA-BUD last autumn, on A.321, only myself in C for the late evening flight out of FRA. Whole front section all empty. Another story in the Y part...but I think at least the first 12 rows or so was only me!, but looked quite full in behind.
Also made BRU-FRA on the 28th Dec last year. Think we were 6 or seven on a 737-500 leaving BRU early in the morning.....very goods service on that short flight. |
Less than 100 on a 747 - only one in F (oops not an LH flight)

When I did my MBA in the states in 1996/97, I read an article in the ny times, where a british business man was to return from JFK to LHR on BA. He had to choose from two flights offered and took the later one which he believed was not that crowded......and here it comes (I still got that article which I stuck on my fridge cause I loved it so much)....
He was the only pax on an BA 747-400!!! He later was cited that he had experienced the best service ever on that flight...just imagine :D cheers HON_Hunter |
...ahh forgot! Was the only one in biz on an Embraer 170 on LH 6969 (LOT code share from KRK ro FRA) ..... and the funny thing is, they had moved the curtain directly behind row 1 :D (eco cabin was half empty though)...
cheers HON_Hunter |

Has anbody been on a flight with less passengers? get upgraded to a BAe146 you mentioned, I had two flights with some 10 pax on board. I wonder if they did not need the thingy in FRA if they made up a force majeur excuse why they could not possibly fly (weather, demons, political unrest in FRA) ? |
1991, some days before or after the outbreak of Gulf War I, I was one of total two pax on LH to LHR on a 737 or A320(?). Service was magnificent, crew outnumbered us pax and were keen to bring us yeat another magazine, C class snack aso. Everyone was a bit nervous, though. LHR was almost empty that day, very arkward feeling ... and there were tanks on the square were the concorde model stands ...
A week later on the flight back, everything was almost back to normal ... |
During the first Gulf war (early Nineties, I guess) I flew on a LH742 from ORD to FRA with 35 passengers total in all classes. The plane was off the jetway but not much and surrounded by Chicago police. We were escorted down the stairs and to the A/C. The flight was eerily quiet, I can tell you.

I flew MAD-DUS on LH Cityline in December, with 5 passengers in total (all in Y). This meant free seating and business class meals to everyone ^ .

Don't get me wrong, I don't thing you don't deserve it once in a while to get this extra service for free, but every meal costs money and thousands of useless meals add up after a while. Stefan |
