It would take a day to do the detailed analysis of the figures. Try yourself at http://members.chello.nl/s.c.verbrugge/Tu134.html#154 and associated webpages. Bear in mind that divisions like this are a Western concept; in Soviet days the two were run closely together, rather like the air transport sections of air forces that run scheduled passenger services in several South American countries.

Are you guys serious? You cannot possibly, for a second think that Soviet aerospace technology is anywhere close to Western technology. Ever see a soviet factory? Soviet car? Why would you think aerospace would be any better?

None of us said that Russian/Soviet aerospace technology is as advanced as Boeing/Airbus. What I was saying is that a simpler, lower-tech plane like a Tu-154 is not inherently any less safe than western airliners.

I think this is the same mistaken assumption that Hitler made.
