Anyone know of a cheap way over to Ireland this summer?

I found a rate with Fedex for around $35 from the US, but you need to use a standard envelope and it might go through Memphis.

it all depends on where you are.

first try air lingus. you may want to try other airports other than the popular.
shannon, belfast are not as "popular"

also you may check out ba.com into london. then ryan air from london to ireland. those are usually cheap but book as far in advance as you can. its going to be expensive but you should be able to find some kind of deal. try any major hub in europe for that matter if direct is too expensive then check out the low cost carriers. good luck, ireland is amazing. definately take a ride if you have a car along the cost, its got a lot of ups and downs but well worth the cost/time. i was fortunate enough to know people that lived there and they showed me the sights. make sure you have your passport if you are driving from the republic to northern ireland. they stopped our car and asked if anyone was not from ireland. my friends said i shouldnt need my passport but i took it anyway, good thing i did. let me know where your flying from and dates, ill take a look for ya. two heads better than one.

Word of Caution
 

Just a word of caution on flying to London and using Ryanair. Most US flights go into Heathrow or Gatwick. Ryanair flies from Stansted which is at least 1.5 hours by bus to LHR on a very busy motorway. We did this and it took 2.5 hours on a Saturday in July and nearly missed our flight. Price was great, but just be prepared.

Several years ago we were booked on Virgin to London and the flight was scheduled to go into Gatwick. We booked a flight out of Gatwick to France, only to find out that VIrgin changed our flight to LHR. (THey never even notified us, we just happened to check on it). We had 4 hours between flights, so I asked advice on whether or not we would make it and the overwhelming advice was 'no'. It takes about 90 minutes to get through customs at LHR from the time of landing to getting out. We ended up changing all of our flights and it was a real mess. So, again, just be prepared.

Another place to check is Iceland Air, they typically have good low fares -- and a stopover in Reykjavik :)

Actually, Ryanair flys to Dublin, Knock and Shannon from LGW - don't know why. I did the LGW/DUB on Ryanair a couple years ago, and it was fine.

Green Dragon knew that, hence the reference to a stopover in Iceland. The point is that Icelandair often has the least expensive fares to many places in Europe - though they don't serve Ireland, so one would have to change again in (for example) London. The ability to enjoy a day or two in Reykjavik is an added bonus (if you like the place; I do).
