Restaurant and spa recommendations in Amsterdam?
I'll be there this weekend with a colleague and friend.
Any suggestions of great day spas (facials, massages, etc.)? Must-try dinner places? We're staying at the Hilton near the Museumplein. Thank you! |
It's not actually a day spa but good for half a day is the Koan Float place at Herengracht 321 - http://www.koan-float.com/eng/index.php3
You can float there and have a massage or reflexology and it's very relaxing. Then there's a beauty shop nearby called Skins - www.skins.nl (don't know the English version I'm afraid but they do speak good English) which does facials and body treatments. There might be a day spa in the Grand or Okura hotels but I haven't tried them. |
Since we stayed at the Amstel, we ate at La Rive, which was fantastic! Also suggest the Blue Pepper for Indonesian food and D'Vizff Vlieglen for Dutch food in a fantastic old building with lots of little eating nooks for candlelight dinners.

I second the Koan Float recommendation. It's a nice place.
My favourite restaurants in Amsterdam are: Bordewijk (Noordermarkt 7 Phone +31 (0)20 624 38 99) and Utrechteswdwarstafel (Utrechtsedwarsstraat 107-109 Phone: +31 (0)20 6254189), both small-ish restaurants with ambitious chefs and good service--although both are places where dinner is likely to take 3 hours, so not good choices if you're in a hurry. |
Koan Float is indeed very nice, in an upscale sort of way.
For a very European experience, get yourself over to Sauna Deco www.saunadeco.nl Not for the prudish, but a great way to waste a few hours doing absolutely nothing. |
