Does this look right?
 

Generous and considerate Oz acquaintances met while traveling in Thailand sent surface mail to me here in the States while THEY were still traveling (hence no return address) but enclosed a business card in their correspondence.
I assume the address on the card is appropriate for intra-Oz postal service, but it looks so unlike any postal address I've seen on >this< side of the Pond, I'm asking confirmation from knowledgeable sorts. And who else would that possibly be if not other FTers? :cool:
If I were to send airmail from the U.S. addressed thus, with appropriate data replacing the "###" and "xxx," would it actually get to the intended parties:?

Mr. and Mrs. {xxx}
{###} {xxx} Street Como {###}
Western Australia

This is a normal Australian postal address

Mr. and Mrs. {xxx}
{###} {xxx} Street-----> unit/house number and street name
Como {###}------>the subburb or city and the postcode
Western Australia---->the sate it is usually abbreviated as WA
AUSTRALIA----->for international mail I would add the country name at the bottom

So if you address the letter/card/parcel as:

Mr. and Mrs. Smith
123 Main Street
Como 8564, WA
AUSTRALIA

it will get there

And there's an Australian convention about numbering where the address is an apartment/flat/unit in a block with its own street number.

So if Mr and Mrs Smith lived in a block of flats at 29 Acacia Grove, in flat number 42, it would be written "42/29 Acacia Grove".

But I would myself have expected to see (and to write in) this format:-

Mr and Mrs Smith
42/29 Acacia Grove
Como
WA 8564
AUSTRALIA

But the Australian post office likes the four-digit postcode to be written in large type away from and to the right of the address, anyway, so it often ends up looking like:-

Mr and Mrs Smith
42/29 Acacia Grove
Como
WA
AUSTRALIA .................... 8564

(Without the dots, of course.)

I always put the postcode after the suburb or town name, in this case Como (Perth suburb). Globaliser's is the correct way though. Savvy FT'ers will know that the first numeral will be 6 for West Australia. ;) :) Don't get that mixed up. :)

That's what I get for copying and pasting without thinking.

Mind you, for me WA is almost another country altogether. I only know a handful of people outside the 2000-series postcodes.

Yeah, I sent a packaged to someone who bought something off of me on eBay a couple months ago and I couldn't make heads or tails of the address. Apparently they know what it means in Australia, however ;)
