Spraying Down Pax in Australia

I freaked hearing this woman in the 3rd seat CVG-LAX talking to the lady across the aisle from her about her trip home from Australia. Planne was loaded, they made the announcement for all electronics to be turned off to take off & then some men dressed in facemasks & big gear with tanks & soprayers come walking down the aisles spraying away. The FA wore masks too but not the PAX who were coughing up a storm. The woman wanted to exit but the door was closed. The gent went out the back stairs.

What the devil was this about from anyone also in those seats????

Sounds like insecticide spraying. Which route was it?

This is not a DL issue and I am moving this over to TravelBuzz.

All international flights arriving in Australia are sprayed down before the passengers deplane.

Not true. Flights from NZ are not sprayed.

Yeah, I think it's to do with the country of origin. When I've flown Malaysian from KL I've never been sprayed but on Thai from Bangkok I was.

Not just Australia!

We got fumigated both directions on AF between CDG & DEL last summer. FAs did it - one per aisle with a sprayer in each hand. Vile.

Are flights INTO New Zealand sprayed? If not, I guess I need to plan our vacation to NZ & OZ starting in NZ.

I'd be curious to hear about any potential health risks with this...

US and EU should take Ozzie pax apart and spray them with "loudmouthacides" in return :D

As far as I am aware, all non-Aus registered aircrafts are automatically sprayed. I'm afraid that had you flown from KUL, the cabin would have been sprayed (which airlines were you flying? MH?).

I'm pretty sure I wasn't sprayed when I flew MH, but the mind could be playing tricks. :)

I flew MH last year (before they removed F class) and I remember the FA asking me whether I was particularly susceptible to counghing fits, if so, to cover my mouth and nose.

However, I completely understand re: mind playing tricks. I was stupid enough to leave ALL my hand luggage (laptop plus a cabin bag) when I was disembarking (only last year).

So let me get this straight.

You overheard a woman you do NOT know telling someone she probably does not know, all this fiction, and you report it here as a Newsflash as if it is Gospel Truth?

Reads more like a 'National Enquirer" story - or fodder for Jerry Springer. Have no idea why this arrant 4th hand nonsense finds its way onto FT?

I fly into this country MANY times a year and have done for 35 years. From various NZ cities, from LAX, SFO, HKG, BKK, SIN - and many times in recent years on MH from KUL.

No sprays on any of them for at least 10 years I'd say. So these fanciful Star Wars characters seem to bypass my planes.

"some men dressed in facemasks & big gear with tanks & soprayers."

As of about 10 years back there was a perfunctory spray by Quarantine staff who walked once up each aisle with an aerosol can the size of what you use each day. They were dressed in short pants and short sleeves. I missed the face masks and big tanks on the guys I saw.

AFAIK now planes from any possible risk countries get a spray BEFORE pax board. But what would I know.

theawesome1 - out of totally curiousity, have you ever visited Australia?

Do you travel out of the USA much?

:td:

Sorry to let the facts get in the way of a good story.

As mentioned above by Ozstamps, any spraying that did exist finished over 10 years ago. More like 15 years I believe.
