tail mounted cameras

a friend of mine just returned from hkg on mu and couldn't stop talking about how much he liked the airplane. aside from standard power outlets, there was a camera mounted on the tail so you could see the plane in addition to its course.

i was wondering if any other airlines feature tail-mounted cameras. (i like the cameras on jl and nh, but think the tail mount sounds much more exciting)

Not sure about the airline, but I think the only planes thus equipped are the newer A340 series jets.

I've been on an SAS (ORD-CPH) flight that was equipped with this. I believe it had a "Down below cam", a "Front Cam" and a "Tail Cam." It prob. was a A340, from my memory.

One of those documentaries on TLC about the A380 showed the tail cam as being the last piece installed. They then found that the cable for it was an inch too short.

Probably was the 340 since the SK 333 I flew on last summer didn't have it. One of the 333's I was on was there newest one.

No more bad mouthing Iberia. Just returned from a two week vacation in Europe and not only did we have an outstanding experience all the way around with the airline, it had the cool tail mounted cameras! It was similar to playing a video game and gave you an additional diversion to the long boring flight over the pond.

some of the EK's A340s i flew has belly and front view cameras.
pretty interesting if they are clean.

It's not just the tail camera ! The main part of the delays on the A380 programme is apparently down to cabling issues just like this. The cables are all built up in factory A, then shipped to factory B to be installed and found to just not quite fit. It's then a real pain to sort out.

I flew ICN-PVG on one of those MU planes moondog describes, it was a brand-new 340-600.
