Are Cincinnati and Columbus worth visiting?
Have to drive 2 hrs to CVG to pick up someone on a thursday night. Also we have to be in Columbus on sunday afternoon for a basketball game. I am wondering if I should spend the weekend at CVG/CMH or spend an extra four hours driving back to Indiana. I would just stay in Ohio but I am a poor student. So are CVG and CMH worth my money.
Any good sites to see. How's the nightlife. Weekend of March 5. How do I divide the 72 hrs between CVG and CMH? |
I have lived in CMH for about 18 months now and don't claim to know everything about it. There's the disclaimer.
I would not think neither city warrants an extended stop or stay - especially at this time of year. Neither is a bad city, in fact we love living in a suburb of CMH as a family of 6, but for a student neither holds anything unique. The night life around OSU is pretty good for the student and other areas such as arena district are certainly hip and fun. I am guessing however, neither offers anything not available to you in your home area. |
I haven't been to either city, although I have driven to CVG airport once. Cincinnati sounds like a more intersting city to visit to me. Check out these Fodor online guides for info for both cities.

Get to both places quite a bit,
Much more going on in Cincinnati than Columbus. |
I live in CVG and spend quite a bit of time in CMH. Both cities have a lot to offer. Take a look at cincinnati.com. The calendar will give options for that weekend and the CinWeekly section will give a flavor of our nightlife. You could head to Newport on the Levee after the airport. It's on the Kentucky side of the river and very popular right now.
Columbus has great dining and nightlife, as well. Both cities have plenty of museums, also. If you find an inexpensive place to stay, I think you'll easily justify the saved gas and mileage. |
Hello marlowe, welcome to Flyertalk! :)

Visiting like just wandering around hoping for exciting stuff to happen - Probably not.
But if there is something specific you are going to see (concert, museum exhibit, etc), then yes. |
I had to travel to both cities for work when I was younger and living on the east coast. Not much in either place, though catching a meal at the first Wendy's in Columbus was sort of cool during one road trip from CVG to CLE.

I like visiting CVG. There is plenty to do days and good nightlife evenings. I would think Columbus has stuff, but I know for sure that CVG does.

Cmh
I lived in CMH for 3 years. I wouldn't stay overnight there again unless it was unavoidable.

I would say that "Cleveland Rocks", well that is what Drew says.
I am sorry, I just had to add this since the post is about 2 Cities in Ohio! I would say, spend your weekend in the Crown Room in CVG |
