Aeroflot

For travel during March Break, Aeroflot is currently offering a very good rate from YYZ-DXB. Has anyone flown them? What is their product / service like in comparison to AC, BA, EK, AA etc?

Thanks

I have never flown Aeroflot, but I have flown other Russian airlines, and had good experiences with them. Service on these Russian airlines was better than the equivalent on BA, AA, etc (short- and medium-haul flying)

Remember that you will need a transit visa, and I suggest you don't delay too long on it. The visa can be a major pain in the butt.

Transit Visa  uh oh do you know which coutnries passports are exempt?

Thanks :)

I flew with them LHR-SVO-DEL a few years ago. They were OK: nothing special, nothing odious.

I was under the impression you didn't need a transit visa for SVO, though, unless you planned on going landside. Most places don't ask for this. I certainly didn't need one.

If you are in transit for some time, though, and you're offered a free meal at the transit restaurant, do watch out for the food quality there. I had a few bits of some still-frozen-in-the-middle fish that didn't do my already weakened stomach any favours.

Compared to the airlines you mentioned, though, I'd say SU would have a quality lower than all of them (on international routes, at least).

Yeah, you're probably right. Having never been to SVO, I had forgotten that SVO-2 is international flights only. Call the Aeroflot ticket office though, and make sure.

IFE will be more basic than on most other airlines, and the seat comfort will also probably be worse.

Sadiq: May I ask what fare you are being quoted on SU? Also, I think the need for a transit visa at SVO is dependent on the passport you hold. If you are Canadian, I would imagine there is no need for a transit visa (but do check on this).

Hey, Im being quoted 487 GBP (around $1055 CAD) vs Emirates which is 738 GBP. I also am a british citizen, so I hope it shouldnt be a problem :)

I've flown Aeroflot a few times and find them to be a perfectly good airline, with modern planes. FAs can be a bit unfriendly, especially if toward those don't speak Russian, but they are still way friendlier then on, say, Delta.

Also, AFAIK you do not need a transit visa, but double check on that.
