Los Angeles - Seattle

Hey,

Is $472 for Q class return a good price. I think it is awfully high, but thats what I was quoted. If you know where I can get it cheaper, it will be much appreciated. Thanks very much. :)

PS Here are my current dates

Dep March 11th
Rtn March 28th

Hey, not especially - look for around $240 on AS, AA, NW, UA, less on WN...

your dates are awfully far out. ime socal-sea/pdx is best booked relatively close to departure. web specials aside, i almost always end up with good deals.

edited to add: all other things being equal, i usually go with AS when my dates are uncertain because the change fee is only $50.

Expedia is showing all kinds of seats @ $233 to $243 on your travel dates. $472 is insanely high -- who "quoted" you that? (The only carrier at that price level right now is DL, connecting through SLC.) I usually think $300 is the reasonable ceiling on this route, and my wife just got a SEA-LAX-SEA web fare on the AS website for $167, so keep looking around.

Yea, I think it was Delta.

My travel agent quoted me that. My only restrictions were : It had to be changable (not free, even for a fee is fine, I just didnt want a ticket that was set in stone).

Whats AS?

Thanks for your help

$191.80 on Southwest

There are seats still available for those dates on several Southwest flights in each direction--$79 each way, plus taxes and fees.

http://www.southwest.com

Unless something's changed since last year, you can apply the money to a different set of Southwest flights for no fee--but the price of the ticket could go up if a $79 deal isn't in effect at the time you change the flights. (Last year, I was able to cancel a trip that was supposed to begin the following day and apply the money to a reservation for flights later in the year--no charge.)

I think the $79 deal each way is part of a Southwest sale that continues until February 3rd, and (as usual) seats are limited. But as of a few minutes ago, seats were available on three different flights on March 11th going LAX-SEA and on seven different flights on March 28th going SEA-LAX.

Good luck! Sounds like people have responded with lots of options for less expensive flights...

reasons not to fly wn:

1) no nonstop flights
2) in $$$ terms, their change policy is more expensive, assuming you're on a $79 fare because full fare is around $200. that's a difference of $120, compared with $50 change on AS or $100 on ua/aa. (aa doesn't fly the route, but they codeshare with as.)
3) no ff miles

Moondog,

Just curious--since I fly only about 6-8 times a year, and I've never flown Alaska Air...the way I read your post, it sounds like the $50 change fee for Alaska is a flat fee, and you wouldn't have to pay any fare increase (assuming there's an applicable fare increase) when you change your itinerary. Is that correct? If so, what a deal!

Thanks!

You definitely should be able to get S or T class fares on this route for $225 all in on UA.

as long as seats are available in your fare bucket, $50 is all it takes. even if there aren't seats in your bucket, you can still stand by for the change fee alone. you only need to pay a fare difference if you want to confirm a seat in a higher fare class.

fyi, if you book on alaskaair.com, you can get $10 off.
