Pros/Cons Vegas or Atlantic City from Rhode Island?
Details: Can't depart until after work on Fri 2/11 - need to return Sun 2/13. Baby being left with his Aunt on Friday night in Westerly, RI. (around 6:30)
Vegas
Pros: It's vegas - nicer, more options, cheaper when you get there.
Cons: More time to get there, more money to get there.
Atlantic City
Pros: Cheaper, quicker to get there.
Cons: It's Altantic City *ugh*
Forget Mohegan/Foxwoods - yukk.
What would YOU do?

Depends on what you plan to do. Gamble only or gamble & see some shows?
If you only plan to gamble, then AC would be fine.
You will have more things to do besides gambling in Vegas.
Personally, I would fly redeye to Vegas. Good luck!

Personally I'd take Vegas over AC any day, but for two days I wouldn't waste my time on a plane (Ouch, I'm on Flyertalk!!!). There are a few shows in AC...not to compare to Vegas, but still worth the time and low price. Thus for such a short stay I'd do AC.

AC is a pit. If you want convenience, go to the CT casinos. If not, hop on a plane to Vegas. You'll want a nonstop so it's best to go from BOS. America West has nonstop flights. So if gambling is that important to do, it's Vegas or CT.

How would you get from Rhode Island to Atlantic City?
If you're driving you're probably looking at 5 hours or so (and traffic on Friday/Sunday will be a nightmare). Flying will likely take you to Philadelphia, which is at least an hour from AC. I'm not so sure it would be much faster than getting to Vegas.
A non-stop from BOS will get you to LAS pretty much just as fast.

I think it depends on why you're going. If it's just for gambling you'd probably be fine with AC. I haven't been to Borgata yet, but I hear it's nicer than the rest of AC.
If you want anything other than or in addition to gambling then I'd go with Vegas - better atmosphere, food, shopping, weather, hotels, etc.
Don't forget you'll gain 3 hours on the way there. And you may not have to take a red-eye coming back. At least with NYC there's flights leaving Vegas between 4-7 that get here around midnight or 1 am; they might exist for BOS too. And I'd rather have 4-5 hours in my own bed than on a plane. Just be prepared to be exhausted on Monday.

Thanks for the answers. To clarify some things:
We are gambling only. Shows? What is that?
CT casinos - don't have the "ambiance" of the cluster that Vegas has (and to a very lesser extent, AC). Also, I find them annoying in an intangible way.
I would prefer to do my flying on UA/US only, and my fri-night options appear to be very limited, which makes Vegas a difficult proposition.
I was planning on driving to AC - I figured on 4 hours (against the traffic - at least until NYC), but if it's more like 6-7, then maybe Vegas becomes more realistic - assuming I find a UA/US option, or take another *shudder* airline. The sunday return is also an issue - I see US has a Sun 1:30am departure which gets me back East Coast Sun AM, but that makes the Vegas trip kind of short and rushed.
One extra day and it would be Vegas no-contest.

If you're gambling only, don't care about the food, don't mind cold weather, and don't care where you sleep, AC is the better option. The rules at the tables in AC are standardized and generally better for the player than the rules in Vegas. I'm just talking about black jack. If you play something else, that might not be the case.

Vegas or bust, I say. But you're really going to waste time if you absolutely have to fly UA/US, which means connecting. Take from BOS either the DL nonstop for $266 or the HP nonstop for $276, both of which have redeye returns. If you don't like the redeye, try the $296 fare on HP that leaves LAS Sunday afternoon at 4 pm and gets you back to BOS at midnight Sunday.
But definitely Vegas. You won't regret it.

Another vote for Vegas, baby! (Yeah, I need to say "baby" after Vegas too!) You say it's only for gambling but the warm weather in the middle of winter will do you some good too.
WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS, STAYS IN VEGAS.....BABY!
