flying stand-by
I have never flown stand-by before (intentionally anyway). I have booked a 5:30 pm flight DFW/PIT on AA, but now want to depart on the 12:40 pm DFW/PIT AA flight the same day, and would rather not pay the $100 change fee. Is there anything I need to do to fly stand-by? Call and be put on a list? Just show up?
Thanks for your help.... :) |
I've flown standby on about 7 flights this past couple months on UA, I just show up early and request standby.

Generally speaking, passenger-originated standby can only be done at the airport. Just show up early and try to check in at the counter. If the load for the flight is light, they may give you a confirmed boarding pass right there. Also, AA is the only airline that I'm aware of that has the ability to give you a "standby" boarding pass with a confirmed seat assignment. If they later need the seat, your boarding pass will get rejected by the gate reader.

Thanks all!
