Newark Parking?
Any advice on the best parking at EWR please. I am flying out on the 26th with my wife and infant son. ( too much luggage and baby stuff, my wife blames my golf clubs )
Thank you, Jon |
Are you more interested in price or location?
IIRC if you find a parking company near the south end of the airport you will be in a different township where the parking taxes are lower or non-existent. |

I use Mr. Bees - others have reported good experiences with other nearby off-airport facilities. Search google for coupons - should end up costing you around 9-10 per day.

We used Mr. Bee's too- easy stop off Route 1/9 coming from the North, although you need to go up to the next exit and make a U-turn when going home since Route 1/9 is a divided highway. Have also used Avistar- a little more expensive but they have valet parking so you just stop at the front of the place and get on the bus. They figure out where to park it and have it ready at the entrance when you return.

We've always used Avistar (it used to be called Paulie's), either McClellan or Haines, depending whether or not we miss the exit (since the constructions, we keep losing it). Both are very easy for us to get to (we're traveling north to the airport).
We pay somewhere around $11.50 per day, but that is using my corporate discount (which is better than AAA). I have to produce my business card in order to get it. While they are on the pricey side, they have valet service and their shuttles run very very often into & out of the airport. I've wanted to try one of the services in Elizabeth to save the parking taxes, but some people haven't been satisfied with some of the other services. The rate I pay isn't that much more expensive than some of the other lots. YMMV. |

This topic has been worked to death on these boards over the years and a search will turn up other coupon sites which, depending on your day of entry and length of stay, may give an even better discount than Analise talked about above:
Try these in addition: http://www.avistarparking.com/Home.aspx http://www.airportdiscountparking.co...ate=12/26/2004 IMO there is one controlling fact and that is that the Avistar service is the best. The vans come more frequently and the drivers and dispatchers are extremely helpful. So if the cost is a bit more, I think that it is worth it. |

I'd second Mary2E ,Analise's and Monitor's suggestion on Avastar. My only choice when parking at EWR, especially after I got rear ended while parked in long term during a snow storm. convienent little bump of snow behind every car when they plowed and then it rained and turned to ice, so the car across from me couldn't get over the bunp unless he gunned it...into my car. ... but that's another story.
If you have the lead time, when I travel with my non freuent flier family, I typically pull up to curb side and drop off my wife and the girls with the bags and golf clubs and then head to Avistar. By the time they have gone to the bathroom, bought a couple of magazines and wandered to the gate, I've dropped off the car and returned to the terminal. Offsite in my experience is the way to go. Discounts off the website are generally not as good as AAA or sometimes just say Merck Phizer or in the good ol days Lucent. |
I've been one of the biggest Avistar fans out there for many years until they totally screwed us at LaGuardia a few months back (they didn't print out all their reservations, they didn't get the last page which should have been obvious because it didn't have the total line on it, and wouldn't let us park and we ended up at daily lots for the trip because the long term and all the other lots were full), but I never had a problem at Newark with them (other then the car being filled with ants one time, but that's probably not their fault, ants do what they want to do). They tend to be a bit slow on the pick up though.
I've since moved my business at LaGuardia over to Airpark, It's a couple dollars a day more, but with their coupons it works out to be about the same. I haven't had the chance to try them out at Newark yet, but there they say they can pick you up with your car, so all you have to do is jump in and off you go, no ride back to the airport lot and the rest. That sounds way too cool to be actually true, so next time... From their website (www.airparkparking.com) True Valet Club at Newark We're the best rated parking at the airport... #1 in safety and #1 in service! Here's why: True Valet Club is the only true valet service at the airport. When you use the service, all you need to do is call our office and get a ticket number. Just drive your car to the terminal and our insured driver will confirm your ticket number for safety and drive to our secured lot just outside the airport. When you return, our driver will meet you at the terminal with your car. Join the growing list of professionals and frequent travelers who have found True Valet Club to be safe, convenient and time-saving. Again, I haven't used them at Newark, but probably will the next time. |
cordelli,
Thank you, this looks like the best option. Will report back on my experience. |
Hey, one last thought, if using any of the off site lots - Reservations are pretty much mandatory now, I can't remember the last time you could just show up and get a spot. Especially Laguardia, Avistar lost one of their huge lots and it really impacted all the long term lots.

I have never had a problem in EWR at Avistar - including when we left on the Friday of holiday weekends. BUT - I've never tried it around Thanksgiving or Christmas. I'd make a reservation just in case.
I made a reservation once, just in case, and when we dropped the car off, I told them we had one. The person said, that's ok - you really don't need it. It probably is different at LGA, but I'm completely happy with Avistar in EWR. |
