booking vs. ticketing

Does anyone know what the difference between "booking" and "ticketing" is?

I understand that ticketing (from the standpoint of creating a reservation) requires that you are ARC accredited. I don't quite understand how "booking" is different.

If you're using the internet, there is no difference, since webfares require instant purchase, however, a travel agent can make a booking through their system without issuing a ticket, depending on the ticketing deadline, which pertains to the class of service (and hence the price) -- however, the price is not guaranteed until the ticket is issued. hope this helps.....paul

Welcome to FT, and thanks for the info!

I am looking at a connection to a GDS, and without being ARC accredited, it only lets me make bookings, and not do ticketing.

So, I assume it means I "reserve" the tickets through the GDS, and the GDS is the one actually "issuing" the ticket officially, for insurance/legal reasons.

If this doesn't sound right, let me know.
