RDU security

Can anyone tell me if you can access the DL gates from any (both?) security checkpoints in Terminal A at RDU? Any experience trying this? Thanks.

I fly out of RDU, but I'm not sure I understand your question. You can access all the gates in Terminal A once past the security checkpoint. I don't fly DL, but a lot of their gates are very close to security checkpoint IIFC.

I fly UA and they've moved to Terminal C; same situation there for all gates.

That answer your question?

Just checked RDU site. DL flies out of gates 15, 16, 17, and 18.

I guess I'm asking if there's an alternate point (possibly a further walk) to the one most people would use to get to get to the DL gates. The waits at the main one have been long the last times I've been there. Map I find doesn't show.

Now I understand. There is that terminal A "annex" but I can't recall if they have a separate screening station (nor whether you can walk from it airside to where the DL gates are).

Yes you can
Go down to the Southwest gates(annex a section) pass through screening, get to top of stairs TR and walk

RDU BLOWS, it's my home base and is by far the slowest airport I go through.(OAK,SNA,EWR,IAH,SFO) all faster

I see more folks standing around trying to look busy here than anywhere else.

If you find someone to complain to about why it's so SLOOOW, let me know-I'm all for complaining as well

Security lines are indeed very slow in terminal A. But terminal C is much faster, at least in my experience. Switch to UA or AA. :D

But in C they have a power mad TSAer that makes you take off your shoes (my soles measure 9mm and the heel is 1.5cm) after you do not follow his "suggestion" to remove them.

BTW, I take the north security check point in A often because usually it is not as crowded as the ones near the ticket counters. Beware that they can have a back log of newbies and selectees that can slow down the line.

Re: Terminal A

I have used the annex checkpoint and walked back; while the line is usually shorter, there are also fewer staff, so it can be hit-or-miss. What's really frustrating is that you can't get a sense for how long the line is at the main Term A checkpoint until you get upstairs, and by then it's just too late.

I, too, have found RDU to be fairly slow checking in; there's usually an idle station regardless of how long the line is. SEA comes close in terms of length of line for me, although it moved fairly crisply.
