Newark to Sweden $99RT

From Travelzoo Top20 today email Think it is a partner with NWA, Virgin, and KLM

Newark to Sweden
Travel dates: December/January
When was the last time you flew nearly 8,000 miles for less than $100?

CheapTickets is offering an incredible $99 roundtrip fare from Newark, New Jersey to Stockholm, Sweden....Wow!!

Including all international taxes and service charges, you'll end up paying about $200 total. But still, you're flying to SWEDEN (no, not Stockholm, Kentucky or Stockholm, Minnesota)...what an amazing deal!!

Travel is valid on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays non-stop on Malaysian Airlines. Departures are in December, although you can return in either December or January. Some dates will become more expensive as the cheapest seats sell out.

Update (2:42pm PT, December 8, 2004): Seats are selling fast and the $99 offer is not availalbe on all dates any longer. If you cannot find your flight on selected dates, please try other dates.

To Book: Visit CheapTickets.com and enter your dates.
NOTE: Price displayed after clicking "search" is $181, which includes all taxes

Thanks, but there is already a thread on this topic here.

Perhaps the moderator will combine them.

...and there is yet another thread here, plus there is at least a fourth (and possibly a fifth) thread pertaining to a slightly earlier version of the exact same sale in the Mileage Run forum.

As for combining the threads, the irony is that I do not believe that this sale yields miles. Therefore, while this sale is excellent, this deal does not qualify as a mileage run and therefore does not belong in this forum...

While technically this is not a mileage run it is an incredible fare. Where else is it going to be shared with the community?

I check Flyertalk regularly for news of great fares and if it isn't in Mileage Run it is likely to be overlooked by me. I would be unlikely to check the Third World FFP forums. There are probably dozens of other low fare seekers like me in the community who benefit from these mileage run forum leads.

I am looking for an end-of-year ticket to Europe (miles would be great, but I need to go regardless) and this has been the most interesting post in days on the mileage run forum. The dozens of requests by individuals for help with their end of year flight planning are pretty boring topics.

I have found several dates with availability for the $181 round trip. My hesitation is that I have to get to New York and I have learned from past purchases that great deals out of New York tend not to work out as great bargains after factoring in the cross country flights.

TravelBuzz! is the best forum for this type of deal.

Perhaps there should be a separate forum for deals of this type that do not earn miles or points.

By the way, I agree with the fact that the great deals are usually out of gateway cities and are not such great deals anymore once the cost of traveling to a gateway city from elsewhere is factored into the total cost.

i almost never read TravelBuzz! while i read this forum regularly. even though this doesn't yield miles, i do think it is valuable to post in this thread. and, yes, maybe there should be a forum whereby one could post information on incredible deals that don't earn miles. but, until then, Mileage Run is a good place. thank you.

I just took a look at TravelBuzz. Like the previous poster I rarely visit that forum. I think a good fare would quickly be buried in that place.

I agree. For these random 'blockbuster' fares that may not earn miles, I think the moderators are wise to leave some latitude and leave these posts up. I mean, a trip to Stockholm could be fun, even without the miles.

From various east coast destinations, FlyI flies to EWR. B6 frequently has good deals from California to JFK, such as their recent companion fare offer - I doubt you could get two people to Sweden for under $800 any better way, except maybe combining SAS's Christmas time sales from SEA and a cheap WN ticket.

And I was prepared to use AS miles from SEA-EWR and ground transfer to JFK to take advantage of the Icelandair $60 r/t to Reykjavik last summer. Alas, it was not to be.

I think it is fine to list great fares in this forum. ^

But do everyone a favor and please note in the Title or First Paragraph the airline and also that the fare DOES NOT earn miles.

That will save many people the trouble of having to click and read. ;)

This sale actually has three price points $99+ (L fare), $199+ (Q fare), or $299+ (? fare) RT. As far as I have determined, only the lowest is excluded from mileage earning. Also, many date combinations are available with one leg at the $99 fare and one at $199, so I would assume mileage would be earned on the more expensive leg.

So maybe we should save the MR versus Travebuzz debate for another day.

This from the NWA WP site:

Domestic Malaysia flights and any Malaysia flights in G, L, or V class are restricted from mileage accrual.
Malaysia Airlines flights do not count towards Elite qualification.

So the higher fares may very well be mileage earning.
