Prostitution World Tour 2005
Hey everyone,
I'm planning to do research this summer on legalized prostitution for a senior essay I am writing next year. I want to travel to countries and cities where prostitution is legal, like Amsterdam. Does anyone know what other places have legal prostitution that would be worth studying? Does Nevada? What about Thailand? Anywhere else? CollegeFlyer p.s. This is a totally serious academic question! I am currently applying for a travel grant from my univ to study prostitution abroad. |
I just hope your "grant" doesn't come from my taxes
Nevada, does have legal prostitution in rural counties. No legal prostitution in Las Vegas. FYI, all legal brothels in Nevada must have the work Ranch in their name i.e. Bunny Ranch, Chicken Ranch, Mustange Ranch, etc. Greece has legal forms also, and I think I remember hearing something a while ago about a floating barge off the cost of Australia to get around local laws there. |

You're going to get paid to travel! And paid to "study" prostitution to boot! I don't even know what to stay. And I thought the speech/comm class my university offered on exotic dancing was pretty crazy. . . . AMS, BKK, and LAS (outside Vegas proper) would be good places to start. Do a Google search and you will find many more. If somebody else is picking up the tab, you might as well hit 'em all! |
Yokohama, Japan along the river. Nevada (The Bunny Ranch comes to mind -- they have a website you can visit www.bunnyranch.com that also has a "menu" -- I HAD a very perverted boss once :( ) I think Montreal Canada too according to him...
By the way, I'll second that  on getting paid to travel, especially to study legalized prostitution -- I remember watching a show once on grants and i've been trying to find out how to get one to do some research/things that i've dreamed on doing for myself but moreso society but I won't bore you now on that -- it's neither here nor there. |
Some states in Australia have legal brothels, so do NZ, I think.
|
Prostitution isn't legal in Bangkok like it is in AMS and Nevada. In AMS and Nevada, it's legal and highly regulated, especially with regard to health. In BKK it's just tolerated.
|
I do volunteer sexual addition counseling with a group that meets in our community. There are websites out there -- because the folks who attend these meetings often refer to them -- that go into detail about prostitution laws around the world. I would list some of them for you if I could remember their addresses. During our sessions, the names of them aren't important -- just talking and coming to grips with one's addition is what's really important.
Guess I didn't help much other than to send you surfing. |

Any other suggestions, anyone? |
First....
Prostitution isn't legal in NV, AMS, or anywhere that I know of. It is overlooked in AMS, it is just not Illegal in NV. There are notorious red light districts throughout EU where it is overlooked just as it is in certain regions in Japan, Thailand, Korea, Israel, etc. If I were doing a paper it would be focused on how these countries contain it to certain "regions of tolerance" (I believe that is the Dutch Phrase). |
Portions of the post that previously appeared in this space have been deleted. I would provide you with a reason why, but doing so would likely be against the TOS.
|
I may be mistaken, but isn't prostitution legal (or completely tolerated) in the UK, provided that the girls aren't streetwalking?
|
Hey, you can add "countries with legal drugs" and it will be one heck of a research project ;)!
