Canouan Island or St. Maarten?
I recently read an article in American Way Magazine about an Isle in the Grenadines called Canouan Island.
We really want to go but the info at www.canouan.com makes it look quite exclusive, somewhat St. Bart like. But we also had in mind to go to St. Maarten. I don't know of a good reference website about that island. has anyone been to Canouan and can you share your experiences? Seems there are no threads about it here. |

I can't answer for Canouan, but a good website for St. Maarten/St. Martin is http://www.traveltalkonline.com/

I spent two days in SXM, though I never slept there. I'd say it depends what you are looking for. SXM was full of tourists, cruise ships and pretty much didn't seem like any special place to me. I don't know about Canouan, but SXM didn't impress me at all.

I know a bit about SXM, nothing about St. Barts really, but I am shocked to see how no one has been to Canouan. maybe we'll go and share the experience here. :D

Both pretty.
St. Martin is more developed than Canouan. Canouan will be quiet. |

I personally love St. Maarten/St. Martin. It has some gorgeous beaches, and something to do for everyone. You can certainly find places that are peaceful and quiet. I agree that downtown Phillipsburg, (where the cruise ships come in), is quiet touristy, however, there is much more to the island than that area. I enjoy the fabulous cuisine, a little gambling, beaches, and jewelry shopping. I also like being able to drink the water!
