FM Just note that a Super 100s fabric could be just as good as a Super 120s or Super 150s...it's not as simple as that. However, generally, the higher the number, the more expensive it gets... Also note that Super 150s and above require a really good tailor as it's finicky so I would suggest you stick to Super 100s and 120s. I know that in Chicago you can get these fabrics at Vogue Fabrics. And Britex will definitely have a good selection. Easy in NYC. Also, heard good things about Sams as well. I got a few suits from Ascot Changs and the tailors in Prince Bldg are known to be quite good. Don't know about bargains though. |
Sapman986, I would be anxious to hear how the traveling tailor works out for you. Mr L2B ordered one of those a few years ago. It did not fit well at all, and he had difficulty getting a refund. He had previously had satisfaction in HK, but said the difference is the repeat fittings in Hk, which is another reason a quick MR is not good for tailored suit purchase.

My brother ordered a bunch of stuff from them when they were in London a few months back and has been pleased with what they sent him. He's a big guy and the suits were very flattering. These guys travel around the world constantly and get to the US several times each year. Details about their movements and many published articles attesting to the quality can be found on their website http://www.raja-fashions.com/ . I must note, though, that the prices are not as much of a bargain as many of the articles state. I paid $800 for the suit and a second pair of pants in a mid range fabric. I'm sure they could make you a $300 suit, but the fabric would be low-end. |
You might also try stateside tailors that make the suits in HK - Here's one that I've personally used a couple of times this year (referred to me by Birdstrike) tailor came out to my office did all the measuring (brought all types of cloth samples to choose from) the clothes arrived by mail about 6 weeks later. I liked the results so much I called them back and ordered some more :)

How about Singapore for a tailor? I had a suit and a couple shirts made when I was there last year. I paid about $450 total. The suit fits and looks great, and the shirts have the best collars.
There were lots of tailors on Orchard Road, with some advertising suits for as little as $150 usd. But you get what you pay for. |

If you set yourself a too tight budget, don't expect the moon but you'll get Brioni quality at half the price. In BKK, same procedure but at the Mandarin Oriental Good luck |
So the best place to buy the faric is Milan? The best place to turn the fabric into satorial splendor is HKG, BKK or SIN... this sounds like a RTW trip -- and of course, it's purely to save money.
Thanks for all the tips. I'm working on an itn for this. Tonight I went to Barnes&Noble and bought a book on BKK. It's a small step to begin this journey. All ideas are appreaciated. Cheers for now, FM |
