So close to a double bump...
I checked ITN this morning before my PHX-DTW-IND flight. It showed all 0's so I got to the airport ASAP. I get to the gate and asked the agent if the flight was oversold and if she needed volunteers. She said yes and I got put on "The List". They ended up needing my seat, in F I might add, and I got a $300 voucher. When the GA was putting the paperwork thru on the voucher, I asked if the flight I was getting booked on has a chance for a bump. She said yes and she asked if I wanted to get added to the list. I said "Yes" and she said "Really???". Unfortunately they did not need any volunteers for the 2nd flight. I ended up in an exit row because F was full. Oh well, I've got $300 in my pocket for our vacation to Florida next summer.
Gotta love the bumps. packemup |
Only time I got a double bump was 4/2/04. Five of us going DL, ATL - HNL.
They only needed four volunteers, so one of us had to go as scheduled. We had planned for this contingency with the folks meeting us in Hilo and the folks picking us up. So the four of us wandered over to our new gate, got bumped again. Got $400/person/bump. The next day our flight was oversold again but they only offered same $400/person and couldn't get us out until the next day. We decided not to take it. We were sitting in our seats on the plane, they asked again at $600. But we decided it was time to start our vacation. |
I've moved this to TravelBuzz as it really isn't about a Mileage Run at all. The only other option I could consider was Trip Reports, but it didn't quite fit the bill there, either.

Came within minutes of getting a triple bump, but the two people who left the area didn't make it back in time, so the seat I was willing to give up wasn't needed after all.
Oh, well, a total of $800 and FC. And one of the vouchers just went to pay for a MR. EmailKid |
I had one double bump that was almost a triple. We flew from ORD to ZRH in 2001; knew that coach was oversold and volunteered. We did not get the bump but did get an op up to business. Our flight from ZRH to ORD was oversold and we were given $500 each plus hotel and meals. The next day the ZRH to ORD flight was oversold again (eight people were bumped); volunteered and received $500 more plus same hotel (Novotel) and meals. The next day, the flight was not oversold; however, it was the inaugural flight from ZRH to DFW. We were op upped to business (the only two of the eight volunteers from the previous day who were but we were both Platinum). Upon boarding we received inaugural certificates and bandanas; upon landing at DFW, we received cowboy hats and Texas pins (just what a girl from Fort Worth really wants).

I got a double bump from NW in September 2003, from LGA to DTW. After a weekend in NYC the Sunday night flight home to DTW was full. I got $300 and the night in a hotel. Next morning I get to the gate and they are asking for volunteers again. Another $300. The twist was that all flight to DTW that day were overbooked, and they rerouted me thru MSP. Extra miles? Sure.
When I got to MSP, I asked the GA to put me on a later flight to DTW so I could spend a couple of hours at the Mall of America. She exact words were "Later? No one ever wants to go later!" :) |
