Getting from LAX to Beverly Hills
 

On Thursday I am flying to LAX and need to get to Beverly Hills, specifically an address on South Robertson Blvd between Wilshire Boulevard and W Olympic Boulevard. I only have availability to public transport. How long should this take me in late morning?

Be very sure that the address on Robertson Boulevard is, in fact, Beverly Hills. It is right around this area that the addresses appear to make no sense. Cutting right across Robertson Boulevard is the border between Los Angeles and Beverly Hills. So, please verify. I am assuming a taxi (when you talk about public transport). Late AM should take about 30 minutes.

When you say public transport I hope you DO mean a taxi because taking the MTA will probably involve a few bus transfers and take you a while since there's no subway or trolly that will get you there (maybe up to an hour to go close to 10 miles). If you can take a cab, do so (and hey the British Pound is great for getting US Dollars right now so for 10 pounds you'll probably get close to $20!! That will help if you plan on taking a cab as my guess is that it'll cost probably close to $40-$50 one way!).

If a fellow LA FTer can't volunteer, I would recommend Super Shuttle for such a trip. Probably half the price of a cab.

MTA Bus Route Number 220
 

The good news is you can ride MTA bus route 220 from inside LAX and up Robertson. There should be a stop along Robertson close to where you are going.

The bad news is that the bus runs only once an hour form about 7 A. M. to 7 P. M. If everything goes well, your ride should take about 60 minutes.

The alternative public transit option would be to talk an Airport Shuttle Bus to the LAX Transit Center and then ride Santa Monica Transit "Big Blue Bus" number 3 into downtown Santa Monica; there transfer onto a MTA number 20 or the MTA number 720 Rapid Bus along Wilshire.

The unfortunate thing about public transit in Los Angeles County is that if you are not taking a trip along a major bus corridor or a metro train line, transit rides can be long and difficult. This trip should really be easier on public transit. However, since your entire trip is not along a major transit corridor, it can take a while to reach your destination. If you must transfer, it can be even worse.

The bus is NOT worth the hassle.

$25, 25 minutes by cab.

I used to live off Robertson b/w Wilshire and Olympic. The cab fare (as long as not in rush hour) is around $35-40.

I agree the cab, or Shuttle service is the best way to go. Public bus is possible as mentioned but would take forever.

What time do you arrive - are you on 283 or 269? I would have offered you a lift but I have meetings in the office that day.

The shuttles can be a good deal, but beware that it's impossible to know how long the ride will take. If you've got to be in BH by a certain time, it would be better to spend the money on a cab.

One other note on taking a cab in LA: You definately should print out a map of where you want to go before you get in the cab. Cab companies/drivers tend to work a section of the city and may not be familiar with anything outside of that section. It's not dangerous or anything, but it's a hassle to keep pulling over so the cabbie can check his Thomas guide.

It's only a problem when you are getting picked up at the airport. I've had a couple of pickups from LAX where the cabbie was totally clueless.

Wow! Thanks for the info and offers guys! Unfortunately I am not travelling! I checked my mail just before going to bed that night and was so tired so just did a cut and paste straight from a friends email who is travelling to LAX. Just thought I'd let the thread simmer for a little
