Priceline source of adware infiltration on computer.....
 

This morning I had turned off my pop-up blocker for access to a site. I forgot to turn it back on... I went to Priceline ( which I never use but was curious about hotels near my airport) and instantly I got this "Ebates Moe Money Maker" page that seemed to take over my computer...the last time that happened I found it as program on my hard drive and removed it... but I never could figure out how it got there.... well... now I know...thanks Priceline!

Where can I find a list of the names of the adware programs so I can know what to search for.

(I already know how to search my hard drive and delete any I recognize)

Why would you want to do that manually? Download adaware from lavasoft (it's free) and let it do the searching for you. Spybot, spy sweeper, all offer free editions. They search for thousands of things it would take weeks to do all that by hand.

david4455 - it's extremely unlikely that it's Priceline that put this adware on your machine. A company like that knows better than to do somethign along those lines.

In fact, you're probably picked up some adware elsewhere, that is triggered by going to the Priceline website. Having said that, it's not very specific adware, as, whenever I've seen it, it tailors the pop-ups to the site you're visiting.

Still, I really wouldn't blame Priceline for this.

I use AdAware on my laptop, and it does the trick nicely.

If you are using Spybot Search and Destroy, and have selected and enabled the immunize option, you will receive a warning message whenever a site tries to download adware/spyware. I've never received such a message with Priceline.

Or just install:

Mozilla Firefox Browser and

Thunderbird E-Mail

and never worry about nasty spyware/viruses/trojan horses again!

You may be right.... I apologize to Priceline. I do have the free version of adware on my computer but in the past when I have been hit with this ebates program it has not picked it up when I have done the manual search .....

I'd recommend Spybot S&D. As long as you keep it updated and use the immunize function it really does work better than AdAware, IMO. The only annoying this is how it blocks cookies from Travelocity. But once I enabled cookies from that specific site everything works great.

Or just get a Mac. :)

If you're on Windows XP, it's worth upgrading to SP2. The pop-up blocker and web/email protection included aren't bad.

But yes, I do like my Mac for avoiding all this nastiness. And for looking so pretty :)
