If the weather gets bad: rain, fog, etc (and it often does in January), find an instructor or patroller and ask for suggestions on where to ski. Often, some parts of the two mountains are much less succeptible to these than others.

And one more thing... I'm not much a sushi afficianado, but there's a sushi place at Creekside that I thought was exceptional.

As someone who lives in BC, travels in the mountains a lot, I can tell you that you do NOT need a 4WD for Whistler. The Sea to Sky is very well maintained, you could drive a Porsche on it in winter, some do. The biggest danger is the other drivers. You may want to rent a Kenworth, for when the idiot in the Suburban passes in a stupid place and hits you head on.

Enjoy Whistler and all it has to offer. It is an amazing place and lots of fun.

Thanks taupo.

I didn't think the drive would be that treacherous. I'll have to see how bad the weather gets this winter.

number6: At first I was a bit hesitant about staying at Creekside because it's so far from the village but for the savings, it's well worth it. Besides, I don't think my friends and I will want to hang out in the village too often. We'll have a car in case we decide to go down there at night. Thanks for the tip though and yeah, Legends does look nice! Anyone actually been there before?

mykeylee,

Check this website out for insights into saving money at Whistler...

You may want to consider taking the bus up if all you are doing with the rental car is driving up to Whistler from Vancouver. Avoids all the hassles with chains and 4WD issues too. ;)
