Need advice...
I am planning a trip for Nov 11-15 going to FLL from NYC area.
I live in NJ and would like to take a CO flight out of EWR ... however the prices are $240 pp RT and I'm a little bit of a cheapskate. I found an AA flight out of LGA to FLL for $115 rt ... but #1) I've never flown AA and heard it was terrible #2) I haven't flown out of an NY airport in more than 10-15 yrs Do you think the CO prices might go down, should I wait, or should I just book the AA flight? Thanks |
As an AA flier, I would vote for AA over CO, especially if you are on a More Room Throughout Coach flight. EWR is probably easier than LGA, but $100 plus price differance is pretty large.
Give AA a try....Good Luck. |
Go with AA. On such a short flight (2 hours or so) the service is really nearly the same on any airline, whether you fly CO, AA, Delta, UA, AirTran, or anyone else.
The prices may go down, or they may not. CO controls quite a bit of the non-stop market out of EWR and I think they are even the only airline with non-stops EWR-FLL. |
AA flights are lower because they are matching fares with Spirit Air. Since Spirit does not fly from Newark to FLL, I doubt CO will lower their fares to match as well.
|
CO from the EWR/NYC area to Florida hasn't usually been very competitive in price, so if that's paramount I'd take the LGA flights on AA...they're not bad, really! If you really want to leave from EWR and you have a little flexibility to go the night before on the 10th or early in the morning on the 12th, then look at USA3000, a new-ish LCC that flies a limited schedule from Newark. $156-176 round-trip.

The OP should really come up with a more descriptive title rather than waste peoples time guessing on content.

I've flown into and out of EWR lots and lots of times, and I really don't have a problem with that airport.
But, am I the only one here who actually LIKES LGA? It is my favorite airport for domestic travel in the New York area. I mean, it ain't pretty, and it doesn't have kick-butt Crown Room and WorldPerks clubs, but it does work for me. And, sorry, but I don't fly enuff on AA to comment on them...just because they don't come any near my home base, is all. |
what is your add on cost to fly from lga rather than ewr, in money & time?...aa is fine, so make the decision on cost & how much more time it takes.

For LGA, driving is at least 1 hr crossing bridges and tunnels etc... Parking in NYC and leaving the car? NO way. Cab ride costs at least $100 each way. Pay the $100 more and fly from EWR ! |

MisterNice --------------- Karina, what did you mean that you "heard" AA was terrible? If you go to the Continental forum, you might hear how terrible CO is as well. ;) If I were travelling from NJ, I don't think the difference in fares warrants flying from LGA. But that's just me. You have to decide if the extra schlep to LGA is worth it. I think that's more of a question than CO vs AA. Just my two cents. |

As far as you, "MisterNice", I wanted advice and that is why the subject line is "Need advice". Jerk. |

As far as you, "MisterNice", I wanted advice and that is why the subject line is "Need advice". Jerk. MisterNice may not have made his point very politely, but I agree with him. A title should be more descriptive, such as "Need Advice - EWR or LGA from NJ?", or something like that. A good title allows other readers to hone in on the subject matter, and will generally provide a poster with faster, more accurate answers. "Need Advice" could be about almost anything, and requires everyone to open the thread to find out more, regardless of whether they know anything about EWR, LGA or the NJ area. |
