5 hours at EWR in the middle of night?

Any ideas how to pass 5 and half hours at EWR in the middle of night?

Our flight arrives little after 1 AM and our connection is at 6:30 AM. It seems that it wouldn't make sense to check in at the airport hotel for $139.00 as one could stay there for about 3 hours.

Is there a place to spend time at EWR in relative comfort while waiting for our connection to Boston?

Yikes! What a horrible thought! What airline and terminal?

Back in the days of PeoplExpress, I slept in the EWR terminal on more than one occasion. :)

Bring a nice pillow, a thick blanket and create yourself a nook. Yikes, what a tough layover. Good luck passing the time and please post back here on how it went!

Unfortunately US airports are notorious for being the absolute WORST when it comes to "activities" during the night hours....

EWR is awful late at night. For such a busy daytime airport, it's creepy seeing how empty and dark it gets. Maybe you could hang out in the lobby of one of the airport hotels.

Obviously, EWR's safe at any time, but it's just insanely boring when everything's shut down.

Hi Jukka,

I went through the same scenario earlier this year and ended up staying at a really dumpy motel (I think Travelodge) for $43.00 that had a shuttle. It was worth it just to be able to clean up, watch tv and rest for a couple of hours. Another option I once saw posted is to rent the cheapest car you can find and park in or around the airport and sleep in that.

Anyway good luck, I don't enjoy spending night in the aiport, but at least it's heated and indoors :) .

If you decide to get a hotel, you can priceline one near Newark for around 40-50 bucks. (2-3 star) . As far as I know, all PL hotels near EWR offer shuttles.

Tough one especially if it's in a terminal where they close the gate area and kick you out to the ticket or baggage area.

You could rent a car, drive to boston, and get a few hours sleep in less time then it will take you to get there.

Cordelli's idea is excellent.
