BA or US?
Last year, we took a trip to Eorupe, and went in BA First. It goes without saying that this was really nice!
I'm sitting with about 220K US DM miles, enough for two Envoy r/t's to Europe or, with the *A partnership, at least two business class tix just about anywhere in the world. I'd like to take another trip this Fall, maybe around Thanksgiving. BA is running a sale to Europe (I think only London) which includes a couple of nights in a hotel. Along with the Coach sale, they are also selling their "economy plus" seats at a good price, and I have the BA miles sufficient to upgrade to a couple of business tix. BA's business class is also very nice (flat beds, etc.) My first thought was to spring for the BA tix and use up most of my miles, since it would take me a long time to gather the required miles for another First trip. However, the future of US is in doubt, and I'd hate to be spending money on tickets and come back to find my stash of miles in US had become worthless. So, if you were in my shoes, and maybe one trip this year was going to be it, what would you do? I have zero status on either airline. |
Hi, Clue
Yeah, that's kinda what my gut is telling me. After all, I fully expect BA to be in Business next year, and they seem to always run decent sales. I had been saving BA miles with the intent of using them for upgrades and this looked like a good chance. However, 220K miles is a terrible thing to waste. :) Transpac is attractive, but convincing Mrs. Biglar to sit still for 12+ hours might be a chore - still, First would make it "bearable" :) |
