This telephone calling card offers $0.029 per minute from Europe to USA...anybody have experience with this service???
|
I use them every time I leave the country. I have never had a problem with them.
You have to understand all their conditions though (and I'm not saying that to say this product doesn't save you a ton of money). You have to get a $20 card. It's 4.9 cents if you use it in the US. It's 2 minute billing increments, and there is a sixty nine cents per week service charge, and you have to use it within six months. There can be a pay phone surcharge of up to sixty nine cents per call, though I don't believe I've ever paid one. So while it's 2.9 cents per minute, even a five second call will cost you 5.8 cents. So will a two minute call. Do the math against the other choices, and for me for a week or two trip, it's been hands down the winner. You get an e-mail with the access numbers your card number fairly quickly after you sign up, I think the first time you may have to call an 800 number for verification, not sure it it was with them or not. But I recommend it to everybody traveling overseas. |
not for me
Not to take away from Mike's experience, but I had the opposite. I once got 2 separate cards from them at once, and could almost never get a clear line overseas. It wasn't a local problem, just sounded like calls used to sound 15 years ago....
Their customer service promised to look into and e-mailed me to tell me everything was fine, not their problem. (HA!) |
I have used them before, and it seems a reasonable service. I didn't get anywhere near the prices quoted due to taxes and whatnot, but it was still decent. A friend of mine has used them for a couple of years now to call Uruguay, and he said that one of their newer cards seems to really have no taxes and gives excellent value. Give them a go anyhow - they send you the access number by email, and neither of us have had any major problem with them.
Like the previous poster said though, if you are looking for a cheap call then they are fine. If you are looking for excellent customer service beyond the basics then look elsewhere. |
If you are going to make a lot of calls and have access to broadband in europe, then you might want to take a look at www.vonage.com
I use it from New Zealand and it is quite nice and useful. |
I use PinCity.com . Very good sound quality.
