Paperbacks, what to do with em ?
 

So after I'm through reading the latest trash, suspense, romance, life changing, sleeping pill, of a paperback. What should I do with it?

-Leave it in the room(bet it gets thrown away)
-throw it off the 39th floor balcony
-have a funeral pyre
-leave it in the Regency club, bar, gym for someone to pick up
-give it to the front desk
-mail it back home
-put my name and address in the cover, with the words-If found please mail to.(let someone else pay the postage)
-hand it to a complete stranger, tell em what a great read it was and how much they'll enjoy the surprise ending(of course tell em what that ending is)

No where I stay seems to have an exchange library, What do you all do with them?

I know of at least one other FT'er who leaves them in airline lounges.

If I've been chatting with one of the FAs (which I usually do if I'm in the pointy part of the plane) then I'll ask them if they'd like to have it to read and give them a brief description of the book if it's not an author they're familiar with. Have also done the same with folk at the hotel concierge lounge (either employees or other travelers I've spoken to there) and once at the rental car return counter. I've also offered them up to fellow travelers.

Sell 'em on Amazon and make a couple extra bucks!

Organise an FT book exchange!

Too much trouble, usually on the go to much to take time to ship them

Actually would be kinda nice if something like Netflix for books exsisted

Even better, some kind of system where travellers can leave their finished books at the airport, where other departing travellers can take them on their flight. All you'd really need is a big bin somewhere near the gates...people can take or leave books as they choose.

If I finish a book during a trip, I usually leave it in a nightstand drawer in my hotel room. That way housekeeping probably won't toss it, and another traveler may find some new reading material. (At least I hope that is what happens.) The main point being I don't want to carry around a finished book as dead weight in my luggage.

Are you the one who keeps leaving porn in the nightstand drawer in my hotel rooms? :)

Seriously, I've found some pretty tame stuff (Playboy, Penthouse, etc) and more than once I've found stuff I couldn't even possibly begin to describe. I just think of it as a learning experience.

We have a spot like that at work, as well as one at the train station (commuter, not AMTRAK) -- just one big bookcase and you can take anything you're interested in, as well as leaving books for others to read.

The United 1K rooms used to have book shelves for exactly this. One was encourged to leave a book or pick up a book. I was brought a box of about 100 to LAX. I miss the 1K Rooms. :(

I prefer selling used books on half.com. The commission is less and your posting does not auto expire after 30 or 60 days like on Amazon. You may however get better prices before commission on Amazon.
