Sky Auction??

Does anyone have any experience with Sky Auction.com?

They auction off all sorts of travel and I was thinking of bidding on a crusie, but I want to know if anyone has had any experience with them first.

The one really irriating thing about their site is that there is not an 800# to ask anyone a question - so that makes me a little nervous.

Thanks!!

if you are after a bargain- you won't find it on the auction,
but if you want to help out go ahead.
you can search the previous results history to see how much stuff goes for

If you type in "skyauction" as one word in the search feature here, you'll see LOTS of existing posts on the topic.

I did get round trip tickets DEN to Acapulco on sky auction a couple years ago.. No, they were not a steal, but they were cheaper than any of the others sites that I checked. I was happy with the price. Remember to keep in mind the additional fees that are added so that your final price won't be a suprise...I had no problems with the trip and would use them again.

i used them for a cruise

And I got a good deal But it worked because of the dates I was flexible on.
I won a cruise for 301 for a 7 day cruise.

you can get a good deal you just need to know what the prices for the trip would be if you bought it directly.

I used Sky Auction to purchase a December, 2003, 7-day cruise on the Carnival Paradise (smoke-free ship) out of Miami. Since I was traveling solo, I had to pay twice my winning bid ($201), plus one set of port taxes and handling fees. I got a cabin to myself for a week for $603, all inclusive. I saved about $200 off of what I could have otherwise purchased the cruise for through a travel agent. And although the bid only guaranteed an inside cabin, Carnival upgraded me to an outside cabin. I was very satisfied with my Sky Auction experience, and with the cruise. But like any other auction, it is essential that you determine the value of what you are bidding on first, so that you don't overbid.

By the way, you will probably get more responses if this thread were moved to either the Travel Buzz or Travel Bidding forums.

Becuase this has nothing to do with miles or points, I'm going to move it over to TravelBuzz!

You may want to visit the Better Business Bureau's pages at www.bbb.org and search for the webaddress of skyauction.com.

It's not all zeros like many of the other companies for number of complaints.

I've used Sky Auction.com two times with great results. First trip was from SFO to LHR with three nights at a decent hotel for two for around $300. The second trip was SFO to FRA on Lufthansa for two for a little over $500.

If you plan on using it make sure you know what a "good deal" is. Some auctions go for far more than the current fare on Travelocity or an airline web site. Also, do not bid early - that just drives the price up. Monitor the asuction you want to bid on and make your bid at the last minute and I mean last minute (if the auction ends at 3pm don't bid until 2:59pm).

Good luck.

For two months, I checked and monitored South American, Asian, African, Australia destinations on Skyauction.

I only saw one nice deal. It was a NYC-Nairobi flight that ended up going for 350-400 (don't remember exact price). This auction ended on a holiday during Christmas time.

Other than this one auction, I haven't seen any unusually nice deals on flights. Admittingly, the prices were pretty good, but the same kinds of deals show up in many other venues on the net. Further, quite a few auctions closed way too high, as some bidders must've gotten in over their heads.
