hotel room size

What do you consider a minimum reasonable size for a hotel room (including bathroom, as hotels seem to measure the total size)?

I realize that shape, decor, etc. can have an effect, but if you're relying on published descriptions, total size is what you see.

I think anything under 400 sq ft is pretty small - but that's just the opinion of a somewhat claustrophic person!

250 square feet. 10 feet by 25 feet is really as small as I can bear.

Any smaller and I request a room change or check out.

Capsules'R'Us

2x1x1 meters is fine with me -- and Japanese capsule hotels are cheap too! ;) The only thing I don't like in most capsules is that there is no lockable door, just a curtain, so soundproofing isn't too great and you have to leave your valuables in the locker. Or just under your pillow, since you'd have to be a pretty damn good thief to be able to climb in and out of someone else's capsule unnoticed while they're sleeping there...

I, too, look for at least 400 sq. ft., although I suspect that's larger than the average hotel room.

I find it interesting that having the larger space is so much more comforting for many of us, even though many of us walk into a hotel room, throw our bags on the floor, go to sleep in the bed, wake up, take a shower, and then leave. A much smaller room is more than adequate for all this, yet I still look for, and pay extra for, larger rooms.

Hotel Room Size

Doesn't matter much to me. The smallest room I ever had was at the St. James' Court in London years ago, where I practically had to re-arrange the furniture to get in the door, but I wasn't in there that much. The "atmosphere" is more important to me- if the furniture is in good shape and it's clean and well-lit I'm happy.

Well, since the first apartment I lived in (for two years) when I first arrived in Japan as a student was all of 50 sq. ft. (3 tatami mats), small hotel rooms don't bother me. This is fortunate as many of the hotel rooms in "business hotels" I have stayed in here in Japan often don't seem that much bigger than that room I had as a student.
