Camera/luggage

What is the current recomendation on putting your cameras-digital and film- in your checked luggage? It seems the last time I traveled there was a new warning about the film but I can't remember the particulars---Thanks!

Digital: No problem except for risks of loss/theft/breakage.

Film: The X-rays used for checked baggage are stronger (since the bags are usally bigger), so it's not recommended that your film go through them. If you check the camera equipment, at least hand carry your film.

The previous response pretty well outlines the technical reasons for not putting film in checked luggage. With the new TSA screening equipment, it will be fogged.

But digital or film, the advice is the same: valuables do not belong in checked luggage.

If you care about them, carry them on. If you check them, the airline may accept only limited liability. Even they tell you it's a bad idea not to carry them on.

The TSA is recommending you not pass film in checked bags, as it may be damaged by the screening.

I don't like packing cameras in checked bags, though from time to time I've done it.

Not a good idea to put any valuable in checked luggage. If you do put your digicam in your checked luggage, I recommend you wrap with Underwear. Thief are less likely to rummage through them. And if they do steal them, hope they are disgusted!
