Best way to get from Munich to Paris?
I'm going to be in Munich this summer and I want to take a quick trip to Paris to attend an evening concert. What gets you there and back quickest on a weekday with the most departure and return times to choose from? Plane or train?
|
Munich to Paris is over 8 hours one-way by the fastest trains (ICE connecting to Thalys). I think that answers your question.

Ouch. Thanks.

So I looked into it and Air France wants $900 to $1100 for a direct flight, and there is a little airline named GermanWings that wants about 130 euros total for the four segments it would take to get me there and back.
That seems awful low. Anyone been on that airline? |
No personal experience on GermanWings, but it's a low-cost carrier, and I'm thus pretty sure connections aren't guaranteed. So you places your bets and takes your chances...
Doesn't LH also fly Munich-Paris though? |
There are some cheap fares on LH, but they all require a Saturday night stay
|
GermanWings rocks! Great airline with even greater fares... If you're lucky enough to nail one of their "lookie here!" offers.

Forget about the train
Taking the trains sucks. The only trains between Munich and Paris without making you change are sloooooooooooow (no high-speed trains).
The lowest airfare between MUC and CDG is €171,00 all incl. on AF if you can include a SAT night stay. No minimum stay: cheapest is Luxair (€754,61)... If I were you, I'd consider burning some miles for this. |
Definitely take Germanwings! They are a pretty decent LCC and you shouldn't really have any problems. You could also take EasyJet I guess, but connecting in Cologne should be easier than connecting in Stansted.

AFAIK Germanwings is Lufthansa's low-cost spinoff, much like Ted is UA's spinoff
