Ever stayed in a ryokan?
There's a lovely little inn outside Tokyo, traditional style with tatamis, futons etc. but we have never tried it. We are thinking of going this time but think it might be a little "hard" going for us. Anyone stayed in one of these?

Yes, I have stayed at a ryokan.
I really enjoyed it. Absolutely do it!!! I intend to impart more details at a later time... |
Best night's sleep you could imagine
I've stayed in several Ryokan's in Kyoto and Hakone. If the place you stay is a quality inn, then I'd lay odd's that you'll have one of the best night's sleep you've had in a long while. Futon's are extremely comfortable when everything is well prepared.
I'd say go for the experience. Take off your shoes and put on the slippers (don't forget to change slippers when in the bathroom) and the yakuta, soak yourself for an hour in the Onsen, enjoy a decadent meal in your room, take a walk and when you return your futon will be waiting. |
Definitely an experience you don't want to miss.

A lovely experience and yes, a bit hard. I found the bending to retrieve things from the floor, packing/unpacking a strain. And I'd certainly stay at one again.

We did this last month in Kyoto. Amazing food; slept as well as I ever have.
Do it. |
