London to Edinburgh
I know it's been discussed before but the websites for UK rail are a real pain. So I can book sleepers, round trip for £29 each way, but if I want to travel during the day on one leg, I have to buy the tickets separately. The sleeper is still £29 but an advance purchase coach seat for the day trip is £143. Ouch! Is it just me or is this an outrageous price difference, and a lot of money for a 4 hour train ride?

Silly me. Turns out, I only had to phone ScotRail, and find out that for £118 (pending availability) I could do my day out, overnight back trip London-Edinburgh. Trouble was, no availability, and I'd throw away my £29 bargain berth ticket. She did however suggest I check out the GENR website which I did. Managed to find a single outbound for what I thought was £100 but turns out the system was doubling it for us (two adults traveling) and the total, round trip fare is £129 each! Bravo! Now I have enough £ to go oot for a drink!
